Poll finds that while a majority of 64% express support for Hamas’s conditions, only 15% say they favor the position of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the results reveal.

An overwhelming majority of respondents, 93%, said they had a negative view of the US role in the crisis.
According to the results, Hamas’s performance has won the backing of 85% of Palestinians in the West Bank.
Abbas, by contrast, won the approval of only 13%.
Nearly 60% of respondents said that the Palestinians were winning the war, as opposed to 7% who said that Israel was victorious so far.

What had been the US role in the crisis? Just goes to show you everyone hates us no matter what we do, might as well spend the money domestically,

Really? And 93% still have a negative view about our role. Hilarious. Our foreign aid policy continues to pay huge dividends....

And for fiscal 2014 the US has allocated $3.1 billion in foreign military financing and $504 million for military research and development to Israel. Israel requested another $225 million today to purchase replacement parts for Iron Dome. That works out to about $9.8 million per day in US military aid (assuming the addition $225 million is not provided, that number goes up if it is), and US FMF funding makes up around 25% of the total Israeli defense budget.

That just might explain why "$15 million for United Nations relief efforts, $3.5 million for emergency assistance from the USAID’s OFfice of Foreign Disaster Assistance, $10 million in redirected USAID funding and $18.5 million in new USAID funding to address food, shelter and medical treatments for Palestinians in Gaza" (the aid package announced this week) doesn't go a long way in changing Palestinian opinions on the US role in the conflict.

I don't think it's terribly surprising that Palestinians' reaction to "the US gave Israel $3.6 billion in military aid, then gave us 1% of that amount to try to help us recover from Israeli military action that they funded in the first place" isn't "hooray, we love the US!"

We have been helping Israel every year since the beginning of time. We have given Hamas about a BILLION since Barack Hussein Obama took office. I am not aware of the US giving the terrorist country a dime before Obama took office.

My guess is if we gave Gaza 3.6 billion we could probably get that number down to 91%.

    Uh ...

And about $23B to Israel, which was Ben's point.

Well it happened, not just aid to the West Bank, but also to Afghanistan prior to the war.

you should really read a little more history that was written prior to 2009:D

The US has been sending money to the Palestinians since the early 90's and you can find mention even further back

To a point I agree, because it's not purely the dollar disparity that drives perceptions of the US role in the conflict but also the difference in types of aid.

I suspect that it would take an awful lot of rice, tents and first aid kits to overcome the perception that the US is paying for Israel to wage war against them.

If the US is to be involved at all, supporting an effort to rid the earth of Hamas is where our money should be going.

And that is where it is going. We supply Israel with military aid in which they turn around and buy US made military equipment that they use against Hamas.

Indirectly we are fighting Hamas and then sending aid to them as a humanitarian gesture

No, what it shows is no matter what we do we cannot win over our adversaries. We need to forget about trying to please everybody and support unconditionally our allies.

I'd rather my tax dollars be spent here, but if we are intent on giving away money, allies makes sense.

Give them their truce ... immediately following a Hamas surrender. This time Israel needs to leave no doubt in their minds that they lost.

Right. They won't be happy until we give them 3.6 billion in military aid to fight Israel.

    We get the parity argument.
