    48. Gainesville, Fla.
    • Population: 131,593
    • Median home value: $154,600
    • Poverty rate: 33.4%
    • Pct. with at least a bachelor's degree: 42.7%
Gainesville is the home of the University of Florida, one of the top 50 national universities as ranked by U.S. News & World Report and the country's fifth largest university by undergraduate enrollment. While the presence of a large research university likely has added depth to the area's talent pool -- some 41.7% of Gainesville adults have a bachelor's degree compared to 31.3% of adults nationwide -- quality of life in the city is poor overall.

The typical Gainesville household earns just $32,968 a year, roughly $25,000 less than the national median household income. Some 33.4% of city residents live in poverty, more than twice the U.S. poverty rate of 14.0% and the seventh highest rate of any major U.S. city.

Right after Atlanta, which happens to be one Great City to Live In !!!

Also lists places like Miami since it is costly to live there.........so you make more $, so what.

Salt Lake City? Really, has the right been there?

I can see the Top 10, that is a no brainer- Detroit, Flint, Rectumville, etc.

Probably is east of Main Street.

This list is bogus. Gainesville is worse than Compton, San Ber'dino, Flint, DETROIT, Homestead, Talla freaking Hassee? Sure we have our faults, but really. It's mid June, I don't even have to run the AC, I don't have to shovel snow in the winter, and I don't have to go 'round packing heat just to get a 40 at Habib's discount beverage. Or Publix.

I believe said list ranks them 50-1 with 1 being the worst. At #48 Gville barely makes the list and is ranked ahead of those cities. :D
Most of the top 10 are no surprise at all. A who’s who of manure pits!

There's GOT to be thousands of cities that should've been ranked higher than G'ville!

Miami Dade may not be nirvana, but 3 cities from that county is a bit of overkill, especially when hialeah isn't one of them.

Sure, Newark is a much better place to live than Miami beach.:rolleyes:

Maybe the writer hates rainy Mondays. So he did some research and ranked cities by their number of rainy mondays and voila.

Makes as much sense as any, which is to say, none at all.

Maybe... if you count all the college students.
