And all we have to do is pass a law banning them and it will all go away. For evidence, see War On Drugs.

Ah Liberals and their fascination with the Theoretical World of What Should Be. All awesome in theory. . . that is, until that messy reality stuff gets in the way.

FWIW, these guys are dumbasses too. Come on, man. You're doing your cause more harm than good with stuff like this.

Public relations stunt. They knew the women would freak, and they would elevate their profile. They deliberately employed tactics that they knew were subtly threatening, or at least intimidating, hence "bullying," is not an unreasonable accusation.

On the other hand, the women should be smart enough to know they gunmen aren't going to actually shoot them, and be cooler about it. Laugh at them, in fact. Defuse the "menace."

This is exactly the way I feel about conservative rhetoric re: food stamps and social programs, and how they could all be unnecessary if everyone would just etc., etc.

Like some protestors with no sense of good/bad optics, those people standing outside are their own worst enemy.

I don't disagree. I'd send them all (D)s and (R)s to the goulags if it was up to me and just start over (with a non-partisan election system nationwide).

So, it doesn't matter that they were law abiding citizens congregating peacefully? They just "looked" bad. If protestors are supposed to take the comfort of those they are protesting against into consideration then OWS was doing it wrong.

Well, of course it matters, malli. They weren't arrested, were they? And "law-abiding," is really beside the point here. The point is armed numeral superiority vs. unarmed, outnumbered moms.

If you show up with guns, or a jester hat and bongos, you're probably not doing your cause much of a service. That's all I'm saying.

Arms and numbers are really beside the point here. No matter how much you want to paint the picture that OCT were challenging the MDA to a gunfight in the street THAT IS NOT WHAT WAS HAPPENING. OCT not having guns with them would be about as stupid as the MDA not tugging heartstrings by calling themselves 'Moms' instead of 'Women'.

No, they weren't challenging them to a gunfight. They were being idiots who decided to show up with guns where someone else was meeting to make a point. Idiots and weenies.

But, believe me, I get it. In the eyes of liberals, liberal protestors will ALWAYS be heroes. Conservative protestors will always be a hate-filled mob.

    Making a point is a no-no if you're conservative, I guess.

Wow, amazing observation. We can revisit any number of "liberal" protest threads and see the reverse dynamic at work. You really uncovered something profound there!

making a point with a gun makes you an idiot and a weenie. but I think I've made that clear.
Seriously, why do it? If your mother or wife was in a meeting, you'd be happy to see a bunch of punks with guns showing up to make a point?

The opinion of any intelligent person, to be honest. It is amazing to me that people think crap like this will have any positive effect on their cause.

Agree. It does their cause no good. As we've seen here, some people will cheer them on. Will cheer anything on. But I don't think most people respect these kinds of bad manners

I'm fine with free expresion of any kind (including mocking protestors), and I support anyones right to do these things, but as an effective tactic, the impetus is on the protestor to be "better" than whatever it is they are trying to drawing attention to. There are always going to be people who use the "optics" against you, but you've got to control what is in your power to control, that is if you want to persuade anyone, rather than just be a ""look at me" type of spectacle.

Have you seen MDA's website? How can you be better than moms and little kids holding hearts cut out of pink construction paper? Their optics are untouchable, but their views are debatable. If OCT had showed up unarmed they'd still be called bullies, because that's how MDA gets their publicity spread. They are poor defenseless little moms and kids and any opposition is bullying.

They liken themselves to MADD which is patently false. No one has the right to drink and drive. Everyone--even the Moms of MDA--have the right to arm themselves.
