    Only in gubmnt is $30 Million not a whole heck of a lot of money. :sick: They obviously have too much money if $30 M is not a lot of money.

    What he doesn't say is that sending money out to dead people is only one type of way to waste taxpayer money in this program. When you add up all of the types of fraud and governmental incompetence, it no longer looks like a drop in the bucket, or even a few drops in the bucket.

    The audit is accurate insofar as it goes, but really doesn't answer some very relevant questions, such as did the agency file claims against the estates of the dead farmers to recover the payments? The audit, at least as reported in the article, didn't answer this question one way or the other. Also, the audit didn't address the question as to whether the surviving spouses of the deceased farmers may be entitled to the payments if the insured farms were jointly owned.

    The deceased farmer's farm was still there and I bet most payments went into the account of the family farm that was still operating. I agree they need to get it straight but just because the farmer died doesn't mean the farm itself went away and the payment was fraudulent.
