I'm guessing the $ board has something about this.
Yep, seems to be strictly insider stuff at this point. Nothing on Google News.
The tease on the front page says a possible three-game suspension. Assuming this goes through, and that Wilbekin isn't re-instated before the games start, the only game of consequence there is Wisconsin, which probably won't be pleasant if we go in down four players, without Walker and with a less-than-100 percent Carter.
Of course, maybe the three players are Graham, DeVon Walker and Billy Donovan, Jr. Who knows?
What the heck ia going on....please say its players that don't matter.
Bad news...I saw on another site that its Prather, Harris, and DFS...This is crap, what the hell are they doing.
Terrible offseason for Florida sports.
It came from Franz Beard. He's the most reliable insider in this board.
Not to make light of the situation if true, but this isn't football. Strength of schedule, quality wins in the conference and finish well and nothing of real consequence. Except for the humbling of some players and a life lesson. Now if there is a mutiny (see Don Devoe) then all bets are off. But I highly doubt it.
DevonWalker decided to stay right? know he was strongly considering a transfer
Not a great offseason for sure, but I've seen worse. Fortunately, most of the bad news has involved FORMER players. While ceretainly not good, none of that affects the upcoming seasons.
In football, we probably had the best offseason that I can recall since I started keeping up with the Gators in 1969. One scholarship player got in trouble. One.
The news in basketball hasn't been as good, and if we start the season down four players, it doesn't bode well, that's for sure. I remember a Norm Sloan team that went to the Great Alaska Shootout without a single starter, due to suspensions, and that very talented team didn't do as well as we'd expected / hoped.
Hopefully, the "crimes" are minor, the suspensions are short, the players learn a life lesson and the basketball team overcomes whatever bonehead moves these knuckleheads perpetrated to get themselves and their team into this mess.
If the three suspensions really are Harris, Finney-Smith and Prather, well...I hope Young and Yeguette are ready to play 40 minutes a game. Or we might spend way, way too much time with the smurf lineup we saw for a minute or two against UK last year.
With the "3 games" number floating around, doesn't this sound like a drug issue? Really, wouldn't that be a pretty safe guess in the first place anyway?
I agree with tegator in basically thinking, who cares? Also, couldn't these games include exhibitions? The missed games aren't going to derail the season. IF there's something to be concerned about, its not the thin roster for the first few games, its the apparent fact that a decent % of the team are breaking rules/getting in trouble - IMO. Some people will be bothered by this, some won't. But, I don't see how the missed games are an issue at all really.
Gainesville Green strikes again? C'Mon Man!
LOL. Yeah, another reason to legalize it (no, not a Too Hot post). I get the idea of PHDs as cheating or not in the spirit of competition (you can recover faster) but this stuff is a downer, not an upper. Maybe the coach doesn't want to waste a time out for a munchie break.
Similar to when F$U football was able to stagger their boatload of suspensions a few years back, do you think the same may be possible given the size of the basketball rosters that one guy would miss games 1-3, another 4-6 and the third 7-9?
I'm sure legalization would not change Billy's drug policy. Why do we demonize reg smokers in general, but fight for legalization of pot? Makes no sense to me.
Maybe these guys missed some class or did something other than drugs. I trust Billy D will do what's best for his program.
No, just the same penalty as if they walked in drunk. BTW, I don't rail against personal behavior of any kind, including tobacco. And no, I am not trying to hijack the thread. BTTT.
Report: Casey Prather, Dorian Finney-Smith, Damontre Harris facing suspensions
I'm as forgiving as the next guy, but this crap is getting old. It's not that hard to behave like an adult for a few years.
Interesting. Seems to suggest these three players have now failed two drug tests and Wilbekin is a three time offender.
Are schools left alone to police drug testing? Is the NCAA involved in this or do they take the hands off approach that they take when it comes to college academics?
