Heartbreaking for Randy and his family. He was so excited to be a Gator. Hopefully he can stick around the program and help out in some capacity.

If the NCAA has any brains at all, they'll make an exception for Florida in terms of initial counters given Randy Russell's situation. Shouldn't lose one for life-saving due diligence.

it won't be an initial counter as long as he didn't perform any countable related activities NCAA Bylaw 15.5.1.2.1 Incapacitating Injury or Illness

Wow, he sounds extremely mature for a 17/18 year old kid. He's handling it better than I would've. Best of luck Randy. Now go kill it academically.

The one bright spot is the kid may have saved himself from CTE down the line. He was definitely a hitter that threw himself into the fray.

I know how you feeling bro. I was just in your shoes.. getting told you can’t play football anymore is hell but you know what benefits you still have. Use them to your best advantage bro and stay prayed up. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I guess I take head injuries a little more serious than you DoctorGator. My comment hardly warranted your Come On Man reply. If you had watched this kid play, his aggressive style lends itself to head trauma. Concussions and some of the ALS cases that appear to be linked to concussions are no joke. But of course you would know this because you're DoctorGator. Or are you more the turn your head and cough type?

This is strange, two Gator recruits with Heart issues who can't play Robinson last year, and Russel this year.

What a tough break for this kid, but what a very mature response to his situation.

Thing is his life may have very well been saved by this exam though, and he's still got what? A good 60 or 70 years to go!

Go get that degree and make a difference Randy!

    God Bless!

Awful news but I’m glad it was caught before serious issues arose. He’s handling extremely well and staying positive. I suppose if there is a silver lining he knows he obtained a goal that so many others would do just about do anything for but will never come close - a football scholarship for The University of Florida Gators.

No it's not. It fits perfectly in the series of events that has befallen this program for the last near decade.

That's not to dismisss the significance of this regarding Randy Russell and his future. This sucks for him first and foremost but Florida certainly has had its share of bad breaks for too long now

Yeah, hopefully CDM can involve him in the program in some capacity.
