I'd love a take from someone that really follows recruiting. We already have two studs committed and are in a good place for T Johnson if we want him. I know he wants to pay cb, but that could obviously change once he gets on caampus as many think he is a safety. How would we have room for a guy that looks to be a pure safety (based on athleticism)?

That was a rumor, I don't necessarily agree with it.

Randy Russell is a Lawrence Wright type hitter. Watched a highlight video of Russell about 6 months ago and decided then I want him to be a Gator.

Reminds me of Jabari Gorman. Limited athletically and would need Ahmad Black football IQ to make up for it. His highlight film shows an undersized hitter that's very limited in coverage and doesn't have a highlight showing any ball skills. When's the last time a smaller guy made any impact as just a hitter?

What makes you say LB? He's 190# with great athleticism and ball skills.

I was thinking Major Wright type due to hitting ability.

6'3" and we will have 3 safety's not including the not safety tryeke. I personally love kids this size that are as athletic as he is, big safety, great, outside lber great, all good. I was just thinking he looks big and he is just a baby.

Hard to say, bc his highlight tape is very 1-dimensional so we cant see his hips. He's usually coming downhill and honestly, he's so raw in coverage that I can't see them in those few plays either. He doesn't jump off the screen though and he would still need to put weight on a pretty small frame. It's just hard for a guy with that frame to add weight without losing speed so id want him to be by far the fastest guy on the field at this point. Kind of like Davis and Lemons last year.

I agree that his frame could support 230#, but I think the game is moving to tall DBs and Smith has very, very good ball skills. I think he has the talent to be a D1 wr if not DB and that would kind of be wasted at LB. Give Russell Smith's frame and id absolutely love him to be one of those guys that grows into an OLB.

That statement by Fields is so thoughtful and well considered that it alone makes me want him as a Gator.

We all know well that so-called commitments are anything but commitments. They merely reflect fairly heavy current leans. Of course, when they result from a guaranteed $35,000 car or a $125,000 per year job for the mom, they tend to be stronger.

Why the big boys after him? Has he camped and looked good? He is 5'11" 180 I think, I do t see 20 pounds as a big deal for a highschool junior to gain and maybe even gain speed, lots of these kids are so clueless about nutrition, there is more than average room for growth.
