SCCA had about 400 cars last weekend for the showcase. Solo autocross on the kart track had everything from karts to showroom stock to full race cars. Rallycross stole the show Sat. being very popular for the first time event at Daytona. There was everything from a station wagon to a full rally prepped Porsche. Sunday on the full course there were over 70 cars in a 90 minute enduro, and a half dozen 30 minute races.
3 races had last lap drafting passes at the checkered and margins of victory were 0.077, 0.071, and 0.025 seconds across the stripe.
About 800 fans came to see, and about 200 took a free ride along on the 3 tracks.

Wild hard hitting race last night between Kyle Larson and a car he is co-owner of. Slide job is when a car goes under another to pass and slides up in front of it. No team orders there! World of Outlaws sprint cars are the most thrilling races to watch.

Congrats to Kyle Larson winning Michigan. I have not seen any highlights yet, but glad to see Larson won. He will be racing another sprint car at Ohio dirt tracks tonight and tomorrow before heading to California.

:) I'll be watching Nascar this week!
Billy Johnson will go from 24 Hours of Le Mans yesterday to driving Nascar at Sonoma this Sunday in King Richard's #43 Ford. Its about time he got a call back to Nascar. This is his Cup debut. In the past he drove for Roush in IMSA / GrandAm and a handful of Nationwide road course races. Lately he has raced for Ganassi Ford GT in WEC World Endurance Championship series and Rolex 24, while coaching all the top Ford drivers.

I'll have to go ahead and admit it. Ian confused. I have never heard this explained when I have watched, some but certainly not all, the various NASCAR races. What this Stage 1 and Stage 2 thing is all about? At first I thought it was 2 different races in one race or whatever. Don't think we have a Stage 3 yet but who knows. :)

It gets more confusing the more you try to figure it out. Nascar still wants to be even more like stick and ball sports. Its like football having 4 quarters. They are all 3 stages, except for the Memorial wknd 600 at Charlotte, it had 4. Nascar designates stages by choosing a couple of times during the race to just throw a caution. It also is meant to decrease the mystery 'debris' cautions. They award Points for top 10 positions after each stage. Bonus points carry into the 'playoffs' and maybe past the 'first round'.

This link shows which laps the stages are scheduled for in all 3 series.

BTW, Kyle Larson also won Tuesday nite at Sharon.

Think they could come up with some better than calling each a "stage". Maybe 1st Half and 2nd. Half. Or maybe Race 1 and Race 2. Anyway, something better than "stage".

I was with Chocolate Myers (Dale Earnhardt Sr's crewman) in Feb. during Speedweeks, he called it "Two heat races and a Feature." LOL

Billy qualified 23rd and finished 22nd in King Richard Petty's 43 car at Sonoma, subbing for Tampa's Aric Almirola. Not great, but very good for his first Cup series race when you look at Almirola's stats at Sonoma the last 6 years - avg start 30th, avg finish 23rd. - This week Billy is off to England, driving a Mustang GT4 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. I'll bet he has more frequent flyer miles than he can use up. Florida, France, Florida, Charlotte, Florida, California, Florida, England, Florida, all in two weeks.

This week Nascar comes to Daytona.
Dale Jr says he might run the 500 next year, so its 'see ya later' not 'goodbye'.
