    March 27, 2017.

I saw in my morning's newspaper that today is Cale Yarborough's birthday. I thought wow, I got something in common with a NASCAR great!

But one thing we don't have in common today. Cale is 78. I'm only 74. See, I'm young. :)

NASCAR has something different this year. Don't know what it's all about. Keeps getting mention by the broadcast crew but never explained just what it is. The Race seems to be divided into 3 parts. Stage 1 and Stage 2. And a final few laps is the Final. Each one seems to have a winner. And a final winner of all 3. Not sure.

Nascar is pathetic. Glad I've been enjoying the sportscar races. Flagged a corner for the 24 Hours of Daytona (Jeff Gordon was on the winning team), and 12 Hours of Sebring, plus a 14 Hr 'ChumpCar' race w/ over 100 cars on Sat. at Daytona. This week Jay Leno will be here, for a charity track days event Thurs/Fri. with over 100 exotic cars (Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc.) and pure race cars going over 200mph.

'Going out on my own terms' Dale Jr's 40 minute podcast regarding his retirement. He still has 2 Xfinity races next year in his own cars. He said he might do some 40 lap races at Hickory once in awhile.

    http://g.dalejr.com/radio/tdjd/default.aspx

This news didn't surprise me after knowing he missed much of last year from the concussions. He will still be around, and will be a great ambassador for Nascar. I saw him win lots of races. I worked the Daytona 500 in '04 and was in the stands for the rain delayed win in '14. I was behind his pit box most of the July 2010 Nationwide race in the #3 Wrangler car. But the most special was the 2001 July race after Dale Sr wrecked. I was in the stands w/ my dad, and the last 5 laps it was obvious Jr had a passenger. Pure magic.
