4-Star Lineman Mike Horton Picks UF
Atlanta (Ga.) Lakeside offensive guardMike Horton committed to the University of Florida Thursday evening. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound prospect picked the Gators over offers from the likes of Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and others.

Horton becomes Florida's ninth commitment currently in the 2015 class and the third offensive linemen joining Jacksonville (Fla.) Bishop Kenny center Tyler Jordan and Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods offensive tackle George Brown. The Gators are looking to sign five to six offensive linemen this class.

247Sports currently rates Horton a four-star prospect with a 90 grade. He also ranks as the No. 31 player in the state of Georgia for the 2015 class.

@LukeStampini: #Gators 2015 class moves up to No. 38 in the nation with the addition of Mike Horton. http://t.co/eJIJzp1Gdj #UF

@HamiltonESPN: Big fan here of #Florida #Gators OG commit Mike Horton. #ESPN300 No. 248 has upside. Good feet + flexibility + body quickness.

@HamiltonESPN: No. 248 Mike Horton is the 5th #ESPN300 commit for the #Gators. Childhood friend of #ESPN300 OLB Adonis Thomas. http://t.co/VHQeEVuUHR

apparently some have him as three star, but when you've got offers from Florida, Bama, Auburn, LSU, UGA, Ohio State ... not to mention Yale, you can probably play.

Agree, looking at ones offer list is probably the best way to view a recruit. He had the top schools in the sec just as george brown jr. Who had a top 6 or so of mizzou, osu, bama, lsu, uk, uf yet he is rated a 3 star. I once read A rivals scouting executive said O lineman are the hardest to evaluate in high school.

This makes me feel good about adonis thomas. Those 2 are childhood friends and were tweeting about possibly playing together back in june. Is it coincidence that they decide 1 day after the other? Possibly but I hope Thomas joins his buddy Horton in O&B.

I am more excited about this commitment than the non-commitment of Ray-Ray. BTW, who are you calling ugly?

I really like not only Horton, but all 3 of our OL commits right now. A lineman with a good head on his shoulders, isn't undersized and taken from uga...awesome.

Just curious - does anyone know why the recruiting articles that appear on the front page never reference the rankings of the players? I always come here to find it, but it seems strange to me.

And, I know that rankings don't determine how good the player will be. In a vacuum, it provides some information about potential.

In fact this year and last year we've brought in some good oline talent. It seems to be getting better and better with merrick I believe committing next. And hopefully culminating with ivey.

Call me crazy, but I can see our Oline being our biggest strength in a couple years rather than the biggest weakness

I have no doubts about that! More than any position you see guys from all over the recruiting rankings being all-americans or NFL pro-bowlers. Our o-line has been horrible with a bunch of 4 and 5 star guys. The problem we've had isn't the number of stars we've brought in there, but the number of guys.

And stability at the positions which gad been shaken due to injuries. It's hard enough for a guy to learn 1 position and the nuances that go into it but we switched guys around ( out of necessity) from left side guard to right tackle then to center, etc. Hopefully having full time players at the same spot being coached by coach summers will help greatly.

iirc, Summers doesn't believe in cross-training linemen, so it looks like he's going 4-5 deep at each position to avoid having to do it. Muschamp is allowing Summers to do that, so perhaps it's a good sign he'll allow Roper the same leeway with the offense.

Yep. And let's hope Muschamp and company can persuade some kids to "come on up". It's high time we started landing some of the reams of talent from Miami, Lauderdale, Tampa, Orlando and surrounding environs. More National Championships have been won with talent from Florida than from any other state. Our coaching staff needs to get what Charley Pell, Bobby Bowden, Steve Spurrier and a slew of U of Miami coaches understood: Florida kids win championships.

Champ says he can play both sides of the line. He looks like a stud at both DT and OL.
