2015 Gator Commitment #10: OLB Adonis Thomas 6-4 220 4.50 of Central Gwinnett High School, Lawrenceville GA. **** . 8.1.2014 Commitment. ********** Boom!!! Florida landed a huge piece to their 2015 recruiting class puzzle Friday evening when Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett four-star linebacker Adonis Thomas committed to the Gators over Alabama. The Gators held off the Crimson Tide to secure the pledge of the 6-foot-4, 220-pound prospect despite his last visit being to Tuscaloosa in mid-July. “First off, Florida was one of the earliest offers,” Central Gwinnett High head coach Todd Wofford told 247Sports’ Kipp Adams. “They spent time with him, they mapped out a plan for him at his position and where he fits in for them on defense on the team. “He had several visits down there and he enjoyed all of those and saw himself how he fit in. He built a strong relationship over there with coach [Will] Muschamp and coach [D.J.] Durkin.” Those trips to Gainesville and the relationships he built may have ultimately been the deciding factor for Thomas. “He felt like he was a part of the team when he hung out with the players,” Wofford said. “That same relationship he built with the coaches and whatnot.” The academics offered at the University of Florida may have also factored in. “He’s also is not just a ‘football’ player,” Wofford explained. “He has a 3.4 GPA, so he was trying to find the best combination of football and academics. Florida has great degree. A degree from Florida carries a lot of weight throughout the country. That played into it as well.” In the end, Wofford feels the Gators are getting a versatile player for their linebacking corps. “He has a skill set that a lot of teams are looking for these days. You’re talking about a 6-4 kid that is 220-pounds and can run a constant 4.5 in the forty. They informed me how he would fit into their scheme with Muschamp being a defensive minded coach in particular. To see his versatility with his size and speed playing a lot of different positions of linebacker, he can play them all is what they sold him on and move him around different places so he can make plays utilizing his athletic ability.” 247Sports currently ranks Thomas as the nation’s No. 182 overall prospect and the No. 11 outside linebacker in the 2015 class.
