    2015 Gator Commitment #10:
OLB Adonis Thomas 6-4 220 4.50 of Central Gwinnett High School, Lawrenceville GA.
    **** .
    8.1.2014 Commitment.

    **********
    Boom!!!

Florida landed a huge piece to their 2015 recruiting class puzzle Friday evening when Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett four-star linebacker Adonis Thomas committed to the Gators over Alabama. The Gators held off the Crimson Tide to secure the pledge of the 6-foot-4, 220-pound prospect despite his last visit being to Tuscaloosa in mid-July.

“First off, Florida was one of the earliest offers,” Central Gwinnett High head coach Todd Wofford told 247Sports’ Kipp Adams. “They spent time with him, they mapped out a plan for him at his position and where he fits in for them on defense on the team.

“He had several visits down there and he enjoyed all of those and saw himself how he fit in. He built a strong relationship over there with coach [Will] Muschamp and coach [D.J.] Durkin.”

Those trips to Gainesville and the relationships he built may have ultimately been the deciding factor for Thomas.

“He felt like he was a part of the team when he hung out with the players,” Wofford said. “That same relationship he built with the coaches and whatnot.”

The academics offered at the University of Florida may have also factored in.

“He’s also is not just a ‘football’ player,” Wofford explained. “He has a 3.4 GPA, so he was trying to find the best combination of football and academics. Florida has great degree. A degree from Florida carries a lot of weight throughout the country. That played into it as well.”

In the end, Wofford feels the Gators are getting a versatile player for their linebacking corps.

“He has a skill set that a lot of teams are looking for these days. You’re talking about a 6-4 kid that is 220-pounds and can run a constant 4.5 in the forty. They informed me how he would fit into their scheme with Muschamp being a defensive minded coach in particular. To see his versatility with his size and speed playing a lot of different positions of linebacker, he can play them all is what they sold him on and move him around different places so he can make plays utilizing his athletic ability.”

247Sports currently ranks Thomas as the nation’s No. 182 overall prospect and the No. 11 outside linebacker in the 2015 class.

Not to take this thread away from welcoming AT (ok I guess that's exactly what I'm doing), but does anyone know where our lb board stands? I would put Holland as a clear #1 and think where you put smith and Coney is based off what type of player we want. Personally, I like Coney to go with the two we have so far. I saw Zach A tweet that we would take all 5, but that seems crazy for us and for them to actually do it.

Along with your question, does anyone know where Camrin Wright fits, or if he should even be in the discussion as a possible LB? I see he's listed 6'4", 220. Maybe he doesn't have the skill set for LB, I don't know. But unless he puts on a lot of weight he seems to be a prototype LB/Buck type at this stage.

Camrin Knight is a TE recruit, why would he be in the conversation for lb?

Right, and I was looking at his profile when I rechecked his weight! I don't know why I was thinking DE.

I like him at TE. That gives us 2 tall ( 6'4 & 6'5) TE's who are super athletic and can catch.

Add another 25 lbs and we have fowler replacement at buck. I think I read champ wants him for the buck spot. With consistent 4.5 speed at his size, could be a headache for some QB's

Just look at a few of the names we've added on defense, assuming the guys this cycle stick. Last year we got holley, clark, Willis III, bryan, on the Dline, jackson, wilson, dawson, and tabor in the secondary, this year so far we've added Jerome Baker and adonis thomas at linebacker with a great chance at landing Roquan Smith, tevon coney, and Jeff holland. Imagine if we add cowart and jefferson, whewww! That's some nasty talent.

Our Oline haul the last couple years has been good too!. T. Jordan, maddawg brown, and mike Horton so far this year, merrick is favoring us, hopefully martez ivey joins the fray. Now that's building a foundation of success.

This is a good pick up. I too think we will have a good year and with that comes a great recruiting class. Also, why label "haters"? You sound like the president. Just because people have a difference of opinion that doesn't match yours why call them "haters"?

I have no problem with differing opinions, however constantly harping on everything that's negative and skipping over all the positives is hating. This isn't politics and I am not running for president, I would hope as gators we would at least look at the glass as half full instead of empty... By the way, it doesn't sound as if you are paying you fair share..;)
