    2015
WR Jalen Julius 5-11 175 of West Orange High School, Winter Garden FL. ***

    4.30.2014 Commitment.
    7.27.2014 Commitment withdrawn.

    *******

Wednesday evening was a good evening for the Florida Gators as the coaching staff received its seventh commitment for the Class of 2015 when athlete Jalen Julius (5-11, 173, Orlando, FL West Orange) called the head man to give him the good news.

“I’m a Gator now, I just called Coach [Will] Muschamp and told him I wanted to commit,” Julius said. “When I told him I committed he said that Florida got better today and that he hopes to see me back on campus soon. He was very excited it seemed like.”

Florida recruited Julius as an athlete but he says that he thinks he will start out on the defensive side of the ball and he’s comfortable there, due to his familiarity with cornerbacks coach Travaris Robinson.

“Coach Muschamp said that I can play both sides of the ball but right now I’m going to play defensive back,” Julius said. “I like to play cornerback and plus I like Coach T-Rob and he knows my aunt and my cousin.”

The familiarity with Robinson helped Florida land Julius but the real key in his recruitment was the environment and his mother in why he chose to pull the trigger now.

“I got a great vibe with the school and the team when I went up there for a visit a few weeks ago” Julius said. “My mom loves up it up there and she thinks it’s a good fit for me plus it’s a good opportunity so I decided to go ahead and commit.”

One other important factor that went into Julius committing to Florida was that his 7-on-7 coach is former Gator great Keiwan Ratliff.

“I also play with Coach [Keiwan] Ratliff in 7 on 7 and so I had to tell him first,” Julius said. “He was excited when I told him and he said congratulations. Hopefully I can be as good as him one day.”

Now that Julius has his commitment out of the way he’s now going to focus on recruiting other players to Florida including one of his high school teammates.

“I’m going to definitely starting recruiting players to Florida so we can get better,” Julius said. “I’m going to try and get Dexter [Williams] over there with me.”

In the article written by Spivey tonight he said he's going to try to get Dexter Williams over to the good guys with him. Hopefully this is true and happens! Wouldn't hurt if he happens to be friends with Francois too since they used to be teammates and can get him over to the good guys too!

Holy crap, that kid is fast. He just pulls away from everybody with that extra gear.

After watching his Hudl highlights, I found an article saying he runs a 4.31. Not surprised.

5-11 Db with sub 4.4 speed is beyond rare. Those guys usually play wr.

Muschamp starts everyone out as DBs, even DTs. It's just how he thinks.

Sounds like a potentially great Kick return man.

I'd be surprised if he's really that fast, but I bet he's closer to 4.31 than 4.6. He obviously has unnatural speed.

I love this pickup. Dude is a freak athlete with hips and speed. Think he could also return kicks (video makes me question his deep ball skills though) and possibly end up in the slot. Still thinks he starts at D bc of his measurables and the fact that Keiwan will undoubtedly coach him up there. Look what he did with Dawson who doesn't have that pure athletic ability (not a knock on DD...just a different type of player). Considering who else we have on our board at cb, our coaches must think very, very highly of him.

Decommitted today per twitter. Sounds like Marcus Lewis may be next. We can't seem to get any momentum this year. It's still early I guess. Hopefully we prove ourselves on the field and start to get some solid commits.

I can understand a kid wanting to "wait and see" how this coming season turns out before committing. But for a kid who has already committed, what has changed from a few months ago to now? Doesn't make sense.

Apparently he wants to play receiver instead of db.

Well I hope staff has it right. Maybe he would be a decent WR prospect but our staff already has our WR and DB boards in line and they don't see it as a fit right now?
