    2014 Gator Commitment #15.
    OT David Sharpe 6-8 275.
    Providence High School, Jacksonville FL.
    ****
    12.12.2013 Commitment..

    **********

How are we looking with him? I see we he didn't make his Tn. visit and now he's heading back to Ga. for the Lsu game. His H/S coach is pushing him to USC for a visit. With all are problems with the OL....its seems he would be a big need, esp. him being in our backyard.
We sure have been missing out on 5 star tackles from Fla. lately.Theus/Ole Miss player I cant remember his name and now this kid.

    Go Gators.

We have not lost David Sharpe. He's still out there for the get. He wants to take the other visits. I don't blame him. Tony Boselli is his coach who played OT for USCw and played for the NFL Jax Jaguars so naturally he'd like Sharpe to visit his college.

    Go Gators.

Maybe Boselli can coach for USCw then.

I still hope we get him, but I'm not holding my breath and I won't be disappointed if me miss on him.

Perhaps Kiffin firing helps with USC??? You would think that an OL would like to play in an offense that runs more and spends more time on the field from a TOS perspective.

I just read a Q & A that might interest you per Spivey...Hope this helps!

    Q) "Please tell us there is good news on the recruiting of the offensive line. Any new recruits on the radar? Will we meet our offensive line needs for the 2014 class?

    A) The number the staff would like to get to is 4 or 5 offensive linemen but honestly right now unless new names pop up I’m not sure they meet those numbers.

    Q) Do you think any of the following offensive linemen may be part of this class: Jordan Sims, Tyrell Crosby, Denzel Ward, Damian Prince, Andrew Shofner or Joshua Casher?

    A) Shofner is only a walk-on candidate and the Gators don’t have much interest in Casher. Crosby has yet to visit and hasn’t seemed like he will. Prince and Sims are scheduled to visit but haven’t. Ward has academic work to do before Florida can even think about him."

Humphries although under weight has been our best recent 5 star OL.
Maybe others outside of the Pouncy twins?

    Two things:

    1. First... they are coming together as a line... which is great. It ALWAYS takes more time for an offensive line to jell than a defensive line.

    2. Secondly... we were playing against Kentucky's defensive line.

Which is not the joke it has been in the past. After watching all the teams in our conference play this year, UK's defense is absolutely in the top-half of SEC defenses and maybe top 4. T. Murphey looked ions better against the UK D than did T. Bridgewater.

We need to sign at least one elite OT prospect every year. I know we're doing well now and Humphries looks like a star in the making, but he will likely be gone in another year and we relied primarily on transfers and JUCOs to fill things out. Sharpe is the only one giving us a long look. We probably need him more than any other team recruiting him. I think we have as good a shot as anyone, maybe better.

I don't think its very likely that Humphries goes after next year. The blueprint for OL leaving early to the NFL is 2 years of physical maturity and 2 years of dominant play. If he's not a surefire first rounder (one of the top 3 left tackles) then it's much more likely that he comes back for his senior year. Maybe he comes in 20 lbs heavier next year and dominates the ever-weakening defenses in the SEC and does go out - but I wouldn't call it likely.
