I was worried after the first clip that he was going to be a dancer, but he really hits the hole hard and has nice jump cuts. And there's that whole matter of just outrunning everyone else...

He said he's a soft commit and Miami is still in it recently from what I read.

Looks like a grown a$$ man in that picture. Can't believe how big 17 year olds are now.

Kid is good. Good speed and I like the way he doesn't run out of bounds when seemingly trap on the sideline. Nothing irritates me more. Good pick up for you guys.

1st time hearing of this. What does soft commit mean anyways? Is that like reserving a spot at a school while still shopping around? How many commits does WM accept when they say "I will give you a soft commit coach"?

He was a soft commit to Clemson before he flipped to Florida. Fans have just got to get over hard or soft commit stuff it is a new day in recruiting where kids commit and decommit from schools. Coaches commit and decommit from players as well.

Dalvin is solid with Florida but it is not going to stop other schools like Alabama and Miami from recruiting him very hard. Also is brother will be playing bball for Miami next year. It is going to be a fight for Dalvin until he enrolls.

    I'm with gatordee on this.

A "soft commitment" is an oxymoron. Like being "fairly unique".

Frankly we'd all have to be just regular 'morons' to believe some of these kids nowadays... keeping a spot warm and open is what it is. Either commit and stick it or don't bother at all!

    I'd have to disagree.

A soft-commit these days is equal to a full-on commitment. With the internet and the type of money college football is producing, it's a much more fast-paced game. If a kid wants to "soft-commit", then you should be thrilled... He could have softly committed to FSU or UM?? But he didn't. He chose UF. And thus, it is assumed that in 8 months from now he will sign with us.

Dalvin Cook is one of the best (if not, THE best) RB's in this cycle... It's not like he committed to us with the hopes that he will get an offer from somewhere else... I believe he already has all the offers he needs or wants.

The attitude of "stick or don't bother" is the type of attitude that keeps kids like that from committing to us in the first place. We don't own these kids, they can choose to go here and flip to somewhere else if/when they get recruited harder by another school. High-profile kids need a lot of slack. You have to give them their space and just hope for the best. Keep them coming back to campus, stay in constant contact, keep visiting their HS.

There's a ton of schools in the race for the prospects we are targeting. We won't land all of the ones we want. But when a kid like Dalvin Cook or Lorenzo Carter or Da'Shawn Hand wants to commit as a "soft-commit", you don't ask questions, you just assure them that they are making the right move with committing to the Gators and you double-assure them that by the end of the process we will win the over.

"stick or dont bother" is poutty-faced elitist.

That may be a bit of bitterness speaking, I'll grant you that S&C. :)

But I just cannot understand the language behind a 'soft-commitment'. Surely it's one or the other. If you're not 'sure' then are you 'committed'?

It's just a semantics thing to me!

This all goes hand in hand with the commitable vs non-commitable offer discussion we were having in another thread.

I tend to agree with you. You either are or your not, have an offer or don't.
