After being sidelined for more than month when he broke two bones in his right leg in a sprint car accident, three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion and Stewart-Haas Racing Tony Stewart co-owner will meet the press Tuesday at the team's shop in Kannapolis, N.C. Given how SHR founder and co-owner Gene Haas said earlier this week that he hired Kurt Busch to drive for SHR more or less over Stewart's objections, Tuesday's presser should be one for the ages.

Tune in today at 2pm on www.nascar.com or Sirius XM Nascar.

    edit: Jayski missed that one.

Time Warner Cable will be the primary sponsor in more NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races after broadening its relationship with Hendrick.
The expanded partnership makes Time Warner Cable the primary sponsor of the #5 Chevrolet SS team with driver Kasey Kahne for six races in 2013 and five races in both 2014 and 2015.
In addition, Time Warner Cable will be a primary sponsor of the #88 Hendrick Motorsports team with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. for five events in 2013. Look for the #88 Time Warner Cable Chevy SS this weekend at Richmond!

    WOW!!!!

.....Therefore, the point total for the No. 56 car driven by Martin Truex Jr. is reduced to 691, putting him in 17th position and eliminating him from the second Wild Card berth for the Chase field. Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 39 car, now moves up into the Chase as the second Wild Card participant.

NASCAR has also fined the MWR organization $300,000 and indefinitely suspended Ty Norris, MWR Executive Vice President/General Manager and spotter for the No. 55 car, for violating Section 12-4.

Statements from Stewart-Haas Racing Regarding NASCAR Ruling To Include Ryan Newman and No. 39 Team in 2013 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup

KANNAPOLIS, N.C., (Sept. 9, 2013) – The following are statements from Stewart-Haas Racing regarding NASCAR’s ruling to include Ryan Newman and the No. 39 team in the 2013 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

“Obviously, we’re very pleased with NASCAR’s decision to provide Ryan Newman’s rightful place in this year’s Chase. NASCAR was put in a very difficult position Saturday night at Richmond and we commend the sanctioning body for taking the time to do the necessary due diligence to ensure that the right call was made.”

    – Tony Stewart, co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing

“I am proud that NASCAR took a stand with respect to what went on Saturday night at Richmond. I know it was a tough decision to make. With that being said, myself, Matt Borland (crew chief) and this entire No. 39 team are looking forward to competing for the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship.”

    – Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 39 Quicken Loans Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing

    A Conversation with Dale Jr.

Q: Of all the cars you raced, what one means the most to you sentimentally?

I just bought a ’77 Oldsmobile Cutlass. I put it on my website so you could see that it’s a lot cooler than it sounds. I got a ‘76 Laguna and a ’77 Oldsmobile. Those were the models that raced in NASCAR in the Cup series around that time. We’ll take them and we’ll put these tires on them to make them look like Cup cars. I sent them over to Ray Evernham’s shop, and his guys put spoilers on the back and we put grille screen on the bumper. They look like Cup cars when you’re done with them and you drive them down the street. I just like old ‘70s NASCAR. That’s my era. I wish I could have driven in (that era).

Q: How did you become a South Carolina Gamecocks fan? (Asked by a Clemson fan)

Earnhardt: I wasn’t always a South Carolina Gamecocks fan. Back when my dad passed away, I was trying to think of this cool idea to boost the spirits of all the employees at Dale Earnhardt Inc. Dad wasn’t there, the company was standing there wondering what to do. The whole company ... had no direction.

I thought that I would call Lou Holtz and see if he would come talk to us, sort of get everybody fired up and give us all direction so we could go into Daytona and work hard. He was the coach of South Carolina at the time. He came out and talked to us and blew everybody away. Got us all started on the right foot and we went on about our way.

Bayne Says He Has Multiple Sclerosis.

Charlotte NC - NASCAR driver Trevor Bayne said he has multiple sclerosis but does not expect the diagnosis to impact his racing career.

Bayne said Tuesday he will compete as scheduled at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend in the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series finales.

The 22 year old driver was sidelined for 5 races in 2011for an illness that led to hospitalization at the Mayo Clinic. Doctors ultimately called it an "inflammatory condition" and it was never made clear if it was related to an insect bite he'd suffered weeks earlier.

Bayne became the youngest winner in Daytona 500 history when he won the race as a 20 year old in 2011.

He is scheduled to drive for Roush-Fenway Racing full-time next season in the Nationwide Series, and a partial Cup schedule for The Wood Brothers.

I sure hope Trevor gets through this OK. He's a nice boy. I consider him one of my "adopted" NASCAR grand kids. :)
