    In his final HS start as a pitcher at home Puk lost 2-0 to a crosstown rival (Iowa is weird and plays baseball in the summer at the HS level). It sounds like he will play this weekend before taking a week off and then making his way to campus on June 22.

    Puk, who was selected in the 35th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Saturday by the Detroit Tigers, is headed to the University of Florida to start summer school. He was pitching for the last time as a Warrior.

    “When you have a young team like we do, you need a beacon; someone to show the way, be an example showing what it takes to be successful,” said Washington Coach Tony Lombardi. “That is what A. J. has been for this team. He has a tireless work ethic and our kids needed that example.”

    “This was a bittersweet evening,” explained Puk. “The last start, the great memories, great friends from every year; but now it’s time to look forward to the next step in my baseball career. I will be starting workouts and classes at Florida and beginning a new chapter.”

    Righty Dane Dunning spurns Jays, coming to UF

    The more pitching, the merrier!

    http://blog.sfgate.com/giants/2013/06/13/sf-giants-finally-get-to-laugh-a-little-in-pittsburgh-plus-other-notes/

    (SF Giant Jake Dunning) got the call to the majors and his little brother, Dane, was drafted in the 34th round by the Blue Jays.

    “I made fun of him,” Jake said. “I told him I got drafted in a higher round than he did. He got a chuckle out of it.”

    Dane Dunning will skip the pros and play for the University of Florida, where he’ll be a teammate of Giants first-round pick Christian Arroyo if the Giants can’t sign him.

    Jake said his brother Dane actually has played with Arroyo in tournaments.

    =========================

    Is anyone keeping track of who signs pro contracts and who hasn't, or is that pretty much moot until the deadline?

    I'm keeping track. I expect Florida will lose three signees. That includes Danish who has already signed.

    Nick - I wonder: i'd love to see a compilation of the draft positions of current gators and past gators too coming out of high school. does such a list exist? or could you research that and compile the list. I think it would be a great reference to have. list of gator recruits too and what position they were drafted at and whether they signed or not.

    also would be good to then compare where gator players, after being at florida, how their draft position changed over the years too.

    Nick, your list of Arroya, Danish and Brady being likely to sign jibes with the general concensus. Would be nice of Brady stays but word is he wants to sign.
