ESPN's Brian Fremeau says Tebow and Co. were the best in the SEC in the BCS era. Used his Fremeau Efficiency Index to pick the top 5.

You have to be an "Insider" to read the whole thing, but anyone can read his praises of the No. 1 Gators -- that team, of course, fueled by "The Promise."

UF since 94 and from what I've seen, Bama '12 was the best.

Remember when UF could just go out and dominate all year? Even in '08, still had my doubts. Wasn't confident about a UF team since before first FSU game in '96

If only the '08 Gators had gone undefeated--they would have been counted up there with the '95 Cornhuskers among the best of the modern era. They certainly had the talent to do so.

After the Ole Miss loss, '08 UF dominated and set a bunch of SEC records in the process.

I've felt this way for a few years now, but unfortunately the loss can't be ignored. It's a loss. It's the same thing for '93 FSU who had probably the toughest strength of schedule and still led the nation in both scoring offense and scoring defense (last team to do so). But their loss at ND ruins any hope of them claiming GOAT.

FWIW both '08 UF and '93 FSU are clearly in the category of best 1-loss National Champions. Maybe at the very top.

There may be a few Gator teams that could have beaten the '95 Huskers.....if they had access to Tom Osborne's pharmacy.;)

Objectively, I agree. '93 FSU also belongs on the list. I did not want this to become a list of the greatest of all time, just a discussion of '08 UF, '96 UF and '06 UF. It would be hard for me as a Gator to argue for '06 UF against '95 Nebraska (with or without Tom Osborne's pharmacy as @gatorborn mentioned).

UF 2001 was perhaps the best 2 loss team of the noted era in the SEC. Spurrier thinks they were as good as 1996.
