Good thing they cancellled those WH tours to save the money. What a great example this po s sets for the country. Drownign in debt, economy puttering along at 2% and he has to go to sub sahara africa. Yes, it is the secret service requiring all this stuff but if 0 didn't have to go, all this $$$ could be saved.

It would be well worth it---worth every penny.....IF they would just stay there forever. Never come back.

I wonder if he is visiting his brother while he is there? Maybe he can take his illegal Aunt with him?

I would be curious what it costs for other heads of state when they travel. Do they have similar contingency plans? Hospital ships, limos, continuous cover?

    I think not.

Gee, I wonder how much it cost to send that pos Reagan - as the OP would say in his endearing folksy style - to to go hold hands with Thatcher. Those trips weren't canceled. Didn't he have relatives in Ireland?

Politicians love the trimmings and trappings of power. OPM is a drug which has no limits and creates a culture of the irresponsible. At some point they believe the privileges and benefits are owed to them. It always makes me laugh when a politician talks of sacrifice but never volunteers to be the lamb. This is another pathetic example of a self indulgent, self righteous politician who says one thing and does another. They believe themselves to be special and above it all... Its good to be King!

This is the way elementary school children approach discussions they'll likely lose: " so and so did worse!" So let's try to deflect, spin, and rationalize.

Currently, government employees are being furloughed and losing money because our government doesn't have the budget to pay them their full salaries. I know other presidents have taken trips but this is not the time to be taking $100 million dollar trips; what message does that send to the people?

It's reached a comical level if hypocrisy. I'm sure Krugman will tell us its stimulating effect on Africas struggling economy.

look if my companies CEO were to go on a vaction to Africa he would have to foot the bill and not force someone else to go without so he can go look at tigers for fun.

I find it just absolutely the most redonkulas thing ever that he is going to use at least 40 MILLION tax dollars to go on a vaction. I'm not mad he's taking a vacation because it is a stressfull job and even he needs a break but what I'm laughing about is that he hits us americans who pay taxes up for a free trip when we can no longer afford White house tours, or even the blue angels...

I guess those air shows that families go to and watch the blue angels should be thankful that they have one less event to spend money on in the economy and helping military familes so that our president can use that money to prance around the desert.
