I was gonna fish Apalachicola river today but this damn 25mph wind is a little too discouraging. With hunting season in I havent had a chance to go in about 2 months.
Nice reds Rella!! I am a little embarassed to post mine from today. I have not heard of that lure but if you try it out let us know how it goes.
Hoops your "bad days" on the water are better than most people's good days!!
Here are a couple of 26+ inchers from today. Went out just to do some quick fishing and hit one spot. Caught 9 in a hour and a half, all 23+. Fun, quick day.
Got out today with my cousin and a fishing buddy. We had a pretty fun trip. Our first drift produced a couple big AJ's and an almaco jack. After that, the wreck bite became quiet so we moved to a different spot. On the way we spotted hundreds of flying fish getting pushed around by big (10-12lb) bonitos. Several boats were chasing them and pitching baits to no avail, so we tried something different. We threw back 2 real small lipped rapalas (size i would use bass fishing) and trolled them on very light tackle. Sure enough, it worked. They are not edible, but we had a blast catching them on the small spinning rods. We caught 11 and cut up 3 for bait. We also landed a nice ranbow runner which will be dinner tomorrow.
After that we hit the reef and caught a keeper snapper, short grouper, a couple squirrel fish and a moray eel. UGH!
Between the AJs and bonito, plenty of bent rods.
It was fun....
Here are a few pics. There must have been water on the lens.. as these are very blurry.
You would have to put a gun to my head to get me to touch a Moray Eel! No way in hell.
Thanks for the report Hoops.
lol!
none of us wanted to unhook it. i've caught one once before. the problem is that even if you pin them behind the head, they wrap the rest of their body around your hand, the line and the hook.
they are a real pain in the azz.
this one swam away with a circle hook in the corner of its mouth.
I went last Saturday around Cumberland Island. We had 22 keeper trout and one keeper red, about 18". We had to throw back about 12 illegal reds, all too big. I caught one 30". All on jigs. That was the most fun I have had in a while.

Sorry for the lack of reports or posts, but I have been busy growing and improving an Independent Insurance Agency, as I just recently became a partner.
I hope to catch the Trout and Reds while they are still in the creeks of the Suwannee, now that I am back in Gville. I guess once an ACR, always an ACR. Good to be around family and close friends again though.
To anyone that goes out this weekend, I wish you tight lines and full coolers.
I am hoping to get out this weekend. Hopefully we can go both Sunday and Monday if the weather permits and it is above 29 degrees . If the weather is horrible then we will go duck hunting, they seem to like the crummy weather.
Saturday I am going to the UF vs. Arky BBall game with my pops for his birthday, you know you are jealous Hoops
On Friday and Saturday after New Year, we were surpised to boat/release approx 70 specks in the 12-14" range on the north end of the North Key flats. We threw white jigs and fished live shrimp. Using a white loves lure, one nephew landed 6 trout on three consecutive casts.
Given this weather, I suspect everything has moved back inside for a while.

Got it all planned out should be a great weekend.
That is my kind of weekend.... I am very jealous!!!
Fishing and Gator Basketball... that is a tough combo to beat.
Yup... we caught an octopus and a bird. It was one of those days. Ugh.
Mercifully, it ended early as the seas picked up a bit. We only fished a couple hours.
Octopus are really cool to catch, they crawl all over the boat, really neat but you gotta watch out for that beak if you like having all of your digits though. I always want to make sushi out of them when we catch them, but my pops wont let me.
Seagulls on the other hand are a major pain in the @ss, and pelicans are even worse, but at least they put up a better fight
Hey hoops at least you got to go fishing, there were 20-25 mph winds up here this weekend, maybe this weekend will be better.
If you want to see something really funny toss a pellican a frozen bait fish. We were going through the locks in pt canaveral on our way out to go fishin when I was maybe 13. There was no live bait to be bought and we were late and had no time to catch live so dad just grabbed some frozen. Were were letting it sit out to thaw and dad tossed one to the pellican. To watch him flop it around his mouth before he spit it out. I was in tears laughin so hard
