UF's win vs Miami's win-Perspective
I just opened the Palm Beach Post and started reading articles regarding UF and one about Miami. Some things that stood out to me. As we know, UF played NW State (14 seed) and beat them SOUNDLY 79-47 and yet the UF article is titled;
"UF STARTS SLOW, FINISHES STRONG"
"It looked shaky at first, but Florida survived."
..."it was an unspectacular beginning to the tournament for third-seeded Florida, but it was good enough to reach the next round...."
Good enough? We destroyed them.
Miami played a worse seed than UF in Pacific and beat them 78-49 (not as bad as UF beat NW State) Here's what the PB Post had to say about Miami's win over Pacific. Title of article first;
Pointing in the right direction
Heady Larkin takes control as UM begins a potentially long NCAA run
"Austin, TX- If anybody out there is still worried about Miami being denied a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, save your stress for another day."
"...Larranaga said after a 78-49 opening win over Pacific that was achieved on TOTAL CRUISE CONTROL."
Reading those articles irritated me. UF destroyed NW State and the entire article made it sound as if we were fortunate to advance and Miami who beat a worse team then we beat and they are destined for the championship game!!

The writer is obviously a Cane fan or Cane alumnus.

2 different articles. UF article was written by Jason Lieser and UM article written by Dave George.

Miami was up 40-19 at one point. We were up 40-32 at the half. They cruised early and it took us a while. I don't see a travesty here.

Right. Miami was up by as much as 24 in the first half and went into halftime up 21. They put it on cruise control for the second half.

I assume they have an editor who could moderate the obvious bias, if he was so inclined.

Would a neutral observer say we "survived" after winning by 32? I don't think so.

I agree. Given the outcome of the games I assumed the Post would have chosen different adjectives/styles/positions, etc...than the one's they used.
I am not saying Miami wasn't impressive but come on, our victory was just as big an ass-whoopin. Again, not a big deal but it did surprise me a bit as I was unaware that UF survived last night and had a disappointing start to this year's tourney...I remembered going to bed happy last night due to our blowout win.

Well, it's technically true. But point taken.

Obviously, all three Florida teams are on the ropes.
Everything written by a human being is biased, it is simply impossible to attain the desired objectivity that the dominant material meta-paradigm pretends exists. Thus, when one writes a scientific paper or article, you aren't supposed to use the first person, but instead, to make it seem like the work was done by GOD or some DEVA rather than the humans who actually did the work, complete with our inherent biases. Regarding using the first person, in a 2001 article in the New Scientist, July 19, 2001, "Personally Speaking" - renowned Brightish biologist Rupert Sheldrake, notes: "When I was at school, my science teachers made me write in the passive voice, but I had no idea it was still going on. Ever since I was a graduate student at Cambridge, I have thought the active voice--“I did”--far more appropriate in scientific writing than the passive--“it was done”. Experiments do not mysteriously unfold in front of impersonal observers. People do science, and to portray it as a human activity is not to diminish it but to show it as it is."
An excellent piece on how bad the application of the so-called scientific method, and therefore "science itself (and I use the term very loosely, because it is not what it is purported to be by a long shot)" is: Sheldrake, R. (1998). Experimenter effects in scientific research: How widely are they neglected? Journal of Scientific Exploration, 12:1, pp. 73-78.

I cancelled my subscription to the Palm Beach Post years ago.. Mostly pro cane / negative to neutral Gator. Plus the rest of the paper sucks big time. Cerabino is ok, but not worth the price of a subscription

Sounds to me like the less enthusiastic article about the Gators could have been written by a typical Gator fan/grad - maybe even one of many posters on this board!
Actually, I take that back. It was a little too enthusiastic to believe that.

Considering this is by far the best canes team ever and the Cinderella story that is FGCU, it will be surprising if UF gets more than a token blurb in SFla media until one or both loose.

Jason Lieser went to Tulane but lives in Gainesville. He writes the Gator Bytes blog for the PB Post.

I don't know how you Gators hang down there in Cane land. The journalists are either local homers or from the northeast . . . gross.

On the other hand Miami's been so bad at hoops for so long that this is really the first we've heard anything in....oh....20 yrs or so....the Constantin popa days! Lol
And UM football has been good for a laugh for quite sometime too. It makes the call in shows quite funny
