One Hickup for the Next Game
We are playing the early game on Sunday, followed by the Miami/Illinois game. The fans for Miami/Illinois will be funneling in for the second half of our game. If our game is tight or we get into one of those missing 3s/poor rebounding efforts then there will be 3 sets of fans rooting against us.
We need to use our past brain farts as a learning tool to keep it going early and for the full game. Otherwise we are going to be one of those "flash to the hot game" tie-ins for the media. I think the key will be sound rebounding by Patric, Eric and Will. And I also think there is a chance that Casey's athleticism can take over key stretches of the game. JMHO

Why would Illinois fans cheer Minnesota? Miami fans won't show up for home games, did that many really turn up in Austin?

I don't think we will have to worry about that.

The B1G tie-in is going to be a bigger pull than cheering against a so-called rival. Miami may not be a big group but their allegiances are NOT on our side. Just saying that if it is close, there won't be a neutral site feel to the game.

My limited personal experience with Big 10 fans is that they actually root against their fellow Big 10 teams. I don't know if that's true with Illinois / Minnesota, but that's been what I've seen.
You are correct about one thing though, those six Miami fans will certainly be pulling for us to lose.
I'm more concerned about how we address the Gopher bigs than how we handle the crowd noise.

i doubt the miami fans will make any difference. most all of the fans that attend that are not loyal to the teams playing will be cheering for the underdog

the fans are the least of our worries- if the kids stay focused we win the game by 10 or 12, maybe more if we are hot from the arc

I don't like the match-up for us. Tubby's guys are long and athletic and play a very active zone defense. Which we all know has given us fits in the past.

Based on yesterdays group of fans, you don't have to worry about a loud crowd.

Arenas never stay neutral if a dog hangs close.
Want to keep the crowd quiet?
Blow out the underdog.

Exactly. we heard how loud the few fans were last night for NW St. The crowd will always cheer for the underdog. We need to have the game boring by midway through the 2nd half

Did everyone not notice that when the broadcast started last night there has hardly anyone in the arena? That's because they didn't let fans for the 2nd game in till 5 minutes before tipoff. I assume it will be the same way Sunday so I think this worry won't even be possible because those folks won't even be in the building at the end of our game.
