Senior Erik Murphy and the Gators exorcized the Northwestern State Demons 79-47 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Murphy used his size inside and his shooting outside to score 18 points, pull down 8 rebounds with 1 assist and 2 steals to earn 97 value credits. Patric Young also bullied the Demons with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists to ring up 82 value credits. Casey Prather and Scottie Wilbekin tied for third with 52 value credits each. Prather only scored 4 points but had 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot. Wilbekin scored 11 points, 4 assists and 2 steals to keep the Gators on a winning path
The game was fairly close in the first half with the high scoring Demons scoring 32 and closing the deficit to four points (36-40) early in the second half. The Gators built the lead back to 10 points before going on a 16-0 run to put the game out of reach. It was the Gators defense that sparked the run as they repeatedly forced Northwestern State into turnovers, demoralizing the Demons, allowing them only 15 second half points. The Gators outrebounded Northwestern State 40-21, which contributed to the blowout.
