Sushi (sorta)
Wife made "sushi" for dinner this evening, only she rolled nothing. Basically put small amounts of each of the ingredients (crab, raw tuna, raw salmon, shrimp, squid rings/tentacles, carrot slivers, cucumber slivers, avocado slices, ginger) on top of a plate of rice. We used good old American 4 pronged forks, mixed some soy and some wasabi and had create your own sushi (sort of)! Delicious! No, it wasn't rolled and it wasn't as good as having rolls but it was quick and it was easy and it was good and we got to have it at home and it cost a lot less than a restaurant and we did not have to create, form and cut rolls. Just sayin'.

To be fair sushi just refers to the rice not the roll so if you slap a piece of tuna on top of a ball of rice that is nigiri and a type of sushi. Sounds like you have a great wife and great meal

I prefer nigiri fwiw. Sure there are lots of good rolls too but when I go for sushi I mostly just eat fish on rice.
Btw, went to an all you can eat sushi place a few nights ago and threw down 33 pieces myself. I think that may be a personal record.

Agree with both of you. Prefer the piece of fish without all the fixins but was very happy with this simple, no fuss, kinda thrown together meal.

Anstro, That sucks.why can't you have it.
Deathroll, did you use sticky rice? I feel like if you get good fish and sticky rice its pretty darn close to the restaurant stuff.

Dude, not cool at all. Sorry man, I know its gotta be harder knowing what you are missing than if you had never been able to have the stuff.

Anstro. I just read an article that said there were as many calories in a California roll as a Big Mac. So there's that
Not to mention, the sodium in soy. They say it better to eat bacon. And what's better than bacon?
Please tell me you can still eat foie.

Aw man. I feel awful. Especially for a chef. I guess I'll have to take one for the team and double up on my sushi and offal.

I didnt think that foie ban actually ever happened in NYC, did it? I remember serious eats went to a farm and reported on how humane it actually was.

You're right it didn't. Just California and Chicago(since repealed) so many other food issues to worry about but I'll stop before I get this sent to too hot
