Question on Randle
While all indications are we will not be getting Julius Randle today at 1pm, here's a question to ponder.
Why did he narrow his list to 4 from 5 recently? Why did Florida make the list but NC State got cut? Is it out of respect to Billy, who Randle credits as helping slow the game down for him while playing for him last summer?
I have to guess that's the case. My guess is that he is truly deciding between KU and UK and is keeping the home school and UF on to be classy. Still, it makes you wonder what goes into these "lists".
Julius seems like a good kid and best of luck to him wherever he goes. I know Billy does an incredible job recruiting, but damn I hate missing out on Parker amd Randle both. It would have been sweet to get one of them.

Maybe he just didn't like the look of NC States hat.

Most likely he cut OU and NCSU from his list recently because he felt that having UF, KU, UK and UTx on his list generated enough interest and he would get more publicity from eliminating NCSU and OU than keeping them on his list.

Sometimes it is good to be one of the hats. We just cant get over the hump. If just one of these big guys picks us the last few years we would be gold.

Out of respect to Billy. I'm sure he would love to play for Billy if there were no external factors involved but, make no mistake, his choice is going to be a business decision.

We got those guys over an extended period of time. Not getting them year over year like UK, Duke, KU etc.

If there is any decency (yeah right, in college BB ), he would pick either UF because he wants to play for BD and with Hill or he picks KU because he is a o-a-d and wants to be closer to his family for the year. Anything else and it's UCLA "recruiting." JMHO

I'm not sure you can look at it that way. Seeing as he will likely only be there for one or two years, he may want to consider the school that he feels will prepare him best for the NBA. You also have to look at things like facilities and relationships with the coach.
FWIW, everyone is claiming to know where he will end up, and there is still no consensus. I'm not going to say Florida has as good of a chance as any, but we can't count on him not choosing Florida.
My theory is that he's already played under BD so he knows exactly what kind of coaching he would get. He'd be surrounded by older veterans, who would also likely help him improve and give him a good chance at a championship.
Then again, there are just as many reasons he wouldn't pick us. We don't have a lot of room in the frontcourt, we are a long ways from home, and we have the smallest fanbase of any team in consideration. We'll see how it goes, but I wouldn't be totally shocked if he picked Florida.

Sorry, he's a good player, but another one and done on this team we do not need, nor do I want.

I could not disagree more.
You don't pass up a talent like Randle.
Hill is not an automatic one and done and as much as Walker wants to be, that is yet to be seen.
Randle makes us the favorite to win it all and pre-season consensus #1 IMO.

Completely changing the subject: one of the things I wished that would have happened after the last NC was that the '04s, etc, came back in the summer and challenged our players to a couple of pick-up games. The new guys would have at least seen what it takes to play at a high level and as a team instead of trying to figure it out as they go along. The reason I am saying this is that having raw talent is great and I would never turn it down but if all you know is high school or AAU level of competition do you really understand what it takes? That is the reason behind the one-and-done rule: the idiots running the NBA couldn't weed them out and they needed to see something more.
If Randle wants coaching and how to succeed in the NBA then UF is as good a place as there is, 22k in the stands not withstanding. Being with more of the same talent and experience isn't really going to teach you much. And as I previously posted, if he knows that this is for only one year then make it easy on the family and play close to home. If UTx were really in the race then I think he would have pulled the trigger with them a long time ago. JMHO

Well, I would not say I wish UF had not taken Beal, but by taking Beal UF probably slowed down the development of both Prather and Rosario and maybe Wilbekin too. While he had the potential NBA scouts like, Beal was not a great player at UF and UF does not have him now when he would be a better player.
