Hopefully no one was hurt other than the suicide guy. So sad, this isn't the first and it won't be the last.

Further info. Practically nobody outside Florida knows anything about UCF, and this is the national pub they get. That sucks. It's a good school, have many friends that went there, and would have no problem sending my kid there.

"According to UCF police, Seevakumaran had already begun his planned attack before shooting and killing himself. They said he pulled the fire alarm and planned to execute students as they fled from the building, but he only shot himself.

LOTS of messed up folks these days. Could happen anywhere. Has already happened in way too many places. Gonna happen again too. No idea what went on that caused this man (not a kid, 30 years old) to abort his plan but am very happy that he did. I remember waiting outside Tolbert Hall whenever anyone pulled a fire alarm; sitting ducks. Hundreds of kids all huddled up close to the stairwells waiting to get back in. Zero defense for what these loons (mentally disturbed individuals) do.

Didn't realize UCF was that much bigger than UF. 58,000 students!

Yeah, it is full fledged, big-time major university now. When I moved to O-town after graduating from UF it was a live-with-your-mom commuter school on the east end of town. Their rivals were Rollins College, Stetson and Florida Southern.
No more.

I have known people who were Gators and wanted to go to UF. When they didn't get accepted to UF they went to UCF instead of FSU. I think UF was first choice for a number of their students.

Yep, back in the mid-nineties they dropped the entrance requirements so low that Valencia CC saw a significant drop in enrollment, something around 10 -20%. Can't remember the exact number. Anyway, they did this because they were miffed that the board of regents didn't consider them a research institute on par with UF, USF, and FSU. While USF and UF.have worked to reduce enrollments, UCF works to increase them. I suppose they feel they will have more clout as a result.

I haven't been on campus there in a couple of years but it definitely was well stocked the last time I was.

It was a freaky feeling for me when I saw that he graduated from the same High School that I did, well 20 years after me.

Let's just say that the scenery at Brighthouse Stadium on game day is pretty good.
