Are we overachieving?
Pearl just said we are on ESPN. He said we don't have the talent on the roster that he is accustomed to seeing in Gainesville. I think I might agree. We lost a lot of talent last year, and the current roster doesn't have any real legit NBA talent (Young has potential and Murphy will probably find a roster, but still).
Billy has gotten these guys to play great defense, and be extremely efficient on offense. We lose close games maybe because we don't have that one elite player to put the game on his back in crunch time. KB wants to be that guy, but he is too streaky. I know we are all pissed that we lost, but for those saying Billy coached a poor game, this might be one of his best season long coaching jobs. Honestly, this probably was supposed to be a transition year till Hill and Walker come in next year, but Billy has made us a top 10 team.

We are not overachieving. We dont have any super stars, but we have the talent to win this tournament. We won the out right regular season title, but this was the weakest SEC in years. Elite eight or better for us.

I don't know about that. Something doesn't add up then if it's overachieving when you're playing 3 McDonald All-Americans. Maybe that says something about star ratings and honors given to players.

Keep playing the defense we play when we're at our best all game long and give Frazier more looks on offense and we'll be fine. Pearl is a dick.

All of our wins are by double digits. What does he mean by overachieving? We haven't won one close game you could point to as a game we should have lost. When you overachieve you win some close games that some think could or should have gone the other way. We have 0 of those games on our resume.
We're a good team, nothing more or less. If we are hitting shots and playing our D we can beat anyone but we aren't a great team who can have a below average day against top competition or on the road and expect to win.

In this horrible conference, no. But I still think he's sort of right.
We made major improvements in the areas of defense and offensive efficiency. Although we looked like it today, we haven't lived on the outside shot all season as we did a year ago.
Casey Prather and Mike Rosario are both much better than they were last year. Rosario's growth and the ice cold blood of Frazier have helped ease the loss of Beal but far from neutralized it. Young became a better defender.
Without the radical change defensively, we would have been 12-6 or worse in this horrible conference.
We underachieved last year and made up for it in the tournament. We should have beaten an inferior Butler team in 2011 but after back to back NITs and a first round exit, no one's whining about a regional final.
If this team gets to the Elite Eight as the last two teams did, it will have been easily the least talented of the bunch.

Pearl would have a good point had this not been such a down year for college basketball. Given that it was, I don't see this as overachieving.

There's a difference between McDonald's All-Americans and NBA talent though.

Technically we are not a top 10 team

Definitely overachieving with respect to the talent on the roster.

No. Chemistry and buying into coach's gameplan makes us scary. Most of our players are 1.5 traits away form being NBA players:
-Patric Young lacks has improved immensely both sides of the ball but still needs one or two more post moves.
-Eric Murphy lacks quickness, but is otherwise VERY good offensively and a decent defender.
-Mike Rosario lacks brains SOMETIMES and is at least a decent defender.
-KB lacks CONSISTENT outside shooting ONLY, VERY good defender.
-Scottie is actually like Rosario only has a LOT better defense and a little better with the ball.
I doubt you can show me 4 other teams with a starting 5 report better than that.

The last two Elite 8 teams were anchored by first round talents. We just weren't sure that Parsons was a first round talent in 2011.
The good news is this team plays much better defense than either of those teams did.

LOL at anyone who thinks this team is overachieving. We are 0-6 in single digit games, plus we lost by 11 to an Arkansas team that we blew out the second time around.
Who have we beaten that we shouldn't have beaten?

I think there is some ambiguity in what "overachieving" means. We definitely haven't beaten teams we shouldn't have, but we might be overachieving in the sense that we don't have elite talent, but are a top 10-15 team. Basically, Billy has gotten the most out of the talent on the roster better than most coaches would have.

This.
Rep for you.
Billy teaches chemistry. While having talent helps. Basing a dynasty's philosophy on talent lottery is essentially a risk and not conducive to long term program success and sustainability.

Don't think we overachieved at all
Wilbekin, Murphy, Prather, Rosario and Yeguette were much improved
Frazier was a pleasant surprise
Young seems to have flattened out. I wonder if not practicing against another big man this season hurt his progress.
If Boynton had performed like his junior season, we'd be a top seed. I don't know if it is pressure from playing for a contract, but his shooting has reverted back to his freshman and sophomore seasons

Feel bad for this kid. Very talented yet team-first kid, GREAT Gator, but the man just cannot shoot from outside in an offense that really wants the 2-guard to do that well...

In lunardi's preseason bracket, he got us a three seed. I think they did just right.
