It's easy to say someone is deviant/abnormal/immoral (pick a word) when you don't know them. When your son, who you know to be a good moral person comes out and says he's gay, I'm sure it can have an effect on your thoughts. You realize that it wasn't up bringing (you were there and unless you were parading around in drag, probably lived a pretty normal lifestyle) , it wasn't "choice" (you got to see firsthand how hard he struggled with it and if it was a choice, it wouldn't have been made so maybe, just maybe it was a part of life that is more normal than you once thought. New knowledge that changed your opinion.
That so hard to believe?
|
What if your child murders someone ? Do you then waive your reservations about murder because you've come to understand that you know a murderer ?
No, it is by no means a ridiculous analogy.

Closely knowing someone who is gay is knowledge.

Even though jersey likes to make every thread about abortion, this one isn't about that. I think rational people can separate the two.

Why separate them ? Point is that most people consider some actions and behaviors out-of-bounds. Many people would prefer to use the term 'sin.' So, here we have a man who probably considered homosexual behavior a sin ... until he found out his kid was a homosexual.

I know several. Hasn't changed anything. I congratulate them on being happily committed to each other.

Now, if the GOP will only stop talking about reducing government they'll be electable.

At one time, according to the justice system, slavery wasn't a crime. Now it's darn near the consummate evil.
Are we really having this conversation ?

Do you believe that slavery is wrong because it was ruled illegal, or because you believe it is absolutely wrong ?

Murder ends all rights of another by killing them. Homosexuality doesn't effect anybody else's right to do anything. Major difference, Dream.

A lot of people might be swayed to the GOP's financial policy if they would quit acting like its still the 1950s regarding everything else.
