Default Misc. coaching tidbits...

Just browsing through Coachingsearch.com and found some interesting tidbits (this is a great website, btw):

Florida A&M: According to the Orlando Sentinel, Oak Ridge HS (FL) head coach Elijah Williams will be named running backs / recruiting coordinator at FAMU.

FSU: Jimbo Fisher has stated, "There is no offensive coordinator." Some thought Fisher may give the title to one of his offensive assistant coaches, but not so. Jimbo also explained why replacing 6 assistant coaches "hasn't been an issue at all."

http://coachingsearch.com/home/2705-...e-at-allq.html

Alabama: A source has informed me that Ole Miss director of recruiting development Tyler Siskey will join the Alabama staff.

Alabama: The salaries of three new assistants have been revealed. Per TideSports.com, offensive line coach Mario Cristobal will make $475,000 in the first year of his contract, while defensive backs coach Greg Brown and and wide receivers coach Billy Napier will make $300,000. Each will make more in their first season than their predecessors.

East Tennessee State: The Johnson City Times is reporting Phillip Fulmer was on campus last week to meet with ETSU officials.

Florida: Brian White will coach the punt team, Travaris Robinson will coach the kick-off and punt return units, and Joker Phillips will handle kick-off return.

Kennesaw State: According to the Marietta Daily Journal, Murray State head coach Chris Hatcher has interviewed for the Kennesaw State job. (I always liked Chris Hatcher and thought he'd end up as a bigtime D1 coach....having played under Hal Mumme at Valdosta State)

Ohio State: ElevanWarriors.com is reporting that fomer Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Heacock is in talks with Urban Meyer about returning to Ohio State in some capacity.

Georgia: Salaries are as follows, according to the Athens Banner-Herald: Todd Grantham ($850,000), Mike Bobo ($575,000), Will Friend ($300,000), Kirk Olivadotti ($285,000), Tony Ball ($260,000), Chris Wilson ($250,000), Scott Lakatos ($235,000), John Lilly ($235,000), Bryan McClendon ($235,000). Bobo previously earned $335,000.

Utah: According to the Salt Lake Tribune, co-offensive coordinator Dennis Erickson will be paid $275,000 annually.

Bowling Green: Head coach Dave Clawson has received a pay raise to $400,000 annual base salary. He previously earned $368,000 annually. Clawson is under contract through June 30, 2019. (I posted this to show how little some D1 head coaches make. I wonder what Eli Williams salary as RB's coach at FAMU will be?)

UCF: According to the Orlando Sentinel, head coach George O'Leary is on the verge of signing a 2-year extension through the 2017 season.

Florida: Defensive line coach Brad Lawing has received a 3-year deal worth $390,000 annually, according to the Palm Beach Post. Joker Phillips will be paid $265,000 annually on a 2-year deal, while DJ Durkin will now earn $490,000 on a 2-year deal.

Alabama: Sources tell me that Ashland University defensive backs coach Joe Palcic has joined the Alabama staff as a defensive quality control assistant. Palcic had actually recently accepted the special teams coordinator job at Miami (OH) before opting to join Nick Saban's staff at Alabama.

Sources tell me former Northwestern State tight ends / special teams coordinator / assistant head coach Brendan Farrell and former Jacksonville State offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach have joined the Alabama staff in a quality control roles.

(Saban convinces these guys to forgo a job as an assistant coach...to be a "quality control assistant". Unreal!)

Nevada: According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, salaries are as follows: Scottie Hazleton ($157,468), Jim Hofher ($131,225), Jeff Genyk ($131,225), Ron Hudson ($131,225), Ricky Thomas ($104,979), Bill Teerlinch ($104,979), Mike Bradeson ($150,974), Nick Rolovich ($125,975), James Spady ($89,231), David Fox ($68,237), Andy Vaughn ($52,500). Each of the new assistants received 2-year deals.

Ouch..Joker must have taken a big hit salary wise. I presume he stands to get an OC job if Pease leaves or something else opens up where he can be the coordinator.

Alabama taking the recruiting dude from Ole Miss is HUGE. I know they pick whoever they want now, it's just going to be worse from here on out.

Yes you did stop our offense very well while there but yes I was holding a grudge. From the day you got here and every time I hear you speak and your excitement about coaching our Gators, working your tale off and being a straight shooter, you are now one of my all time favorite coaches. Thanks coach.

I assume uk is paying him not to be their head coach for the rest of his contract.

That's how it works, generally. UK would be on the hook for his last contract minus what he's making on his current deal. Unless some sort of buy out was negotiated at the time of dismissal.

I didn't realize he was still under contract with KY. May not be too bad for him, then.

I think Joker is making around 2.5 mill a year, only UF is paying that $290,000, Nike with it's $10,000 supplement, and then UK is responsible for the difference of his buyout/previous contract.

That's pretty much what I said, lol. Nike supplement is inconsequential, they pay same at both which makes it a wash.

It is a well-established fact** half his salary goes directly to the SEC's head of officiating.

**in this context, the word "fact" is used in a manner that renders its meaning thusly: "opinion shared by the entire fanbase of the 13 other SEC teams cuz we know it's the truth we just can't prove it"

That's a very good question. These guys are leaving paid positions as actual coaches to take non-coaching positions. It's amazing.

Do we have any of these "quality control" or"analysts" positions at UF?

Yes....members of Gator Country, and specifically the posters in Swamp Gas. Pro bono work mind you, but we DO analyze better than anyone.

I thought Joker would be at 90% of whatever Pease is making and be the top choice to takeover for Pease if he gets an HC offer next year.

Joker received a $2.5 million buyout from Kentucky. UF isn't paying anything towards it...and UK is still paying the full $2.5 million, according to his contract, regardless of what UF is paying him:

http://www.kentucky.com/2012/12/03/2...-phillips.html

$290K is plenty for a WR's coach.

It's amazing how much assistant coaches salaries have escalated in the last 5 years. When Jeff Bowden was the OC at FSU (2006) his salary was $141,000/year.

Bama is a professional football franchise with all these quality control guys running around. Saban is getting carried away. The whole sport is getting to be too professional with these massive weight rooms and all this other crap. The NCAA needs to downsize.

Every time Jimbo Fisher opens his mouth something stupid comes out. Just read the link above. For most of the article he's quoted as saying the same thing in 18 different ways, basically that it's great to have 6 new assistants because they all are from the same system and know the same things so "we're going to do things the . . . same way we've been doing them." Then near the end he does a 180 and says it's great because the 6 new assistants bring new ideas to the table. I guess he's saying it's great that the new guys have new ideas but he's going to ignore them.

There's other good stuff, e.g. at the beginning he's quoted as saying ""(It's been) great because they've all . . . been through the 4th quarter program." Anyone know what the "4th quarter program is?" I also like his statement that they'll keep doing things the Florida State way. I guess that means they'll keep losing at least 2 games a year.

I know I'm biased but I swear I'd think he was one of the dumbest HCs around even if he was somewhere other than FSU.
