Best deal on extended stay arrangment ?
Need some advice. I've landed a job in Charlotte and will be moving there in a couple of weeks. I anticipate crashing at an extended stay facility, for upwards of four weeks, while looking for an apartment.
Best rate I've found is $199 a week, InTown Suites. Is that a decent rate ? Anyone know if I can do better ?
Thanks!

I don't know that area but based on my traveling and staying in hotels as much as I do---your rate of less than $30/night is going to be hard to beat. If it is in a decent area, I would think that is as good as you can hope for.

Thanks for the tips, guys. Yes, I'm looking at Craigslist too. And yes, this is in a decent area.
It does appear to be a very competitive price. Certainly less than renting a furnished apt. And not much more expensive than what I'm seeing on Craigslist to rent a room.

$199/wk is a pretty good rate. You don't have lease terms, funishings, moving, etc to fool with while you investigate the area to decide where you want to live.

Thanks, and am convinced I'm probably not going to get much better. Already made reservations.

+1..Just make sure it's not in a bad part of town. In some area's those inexpensive pay by the week places can attract some bad elements.

$800 a month ain't too shabby. Especially if daily maid service is included. If so, just stay there permanently.

True...when you start adding up utilities, cable, water, etc., if renting an apt...then it comes out to be a HUGE savings across the board. I guess it depends on how long one plans to be in the area.

Since I've worked as a consultant doing various projects for the last few years I can confirm all of the above. By the time you figure all the utility and other costs you don't pay, those long term business stay hotels are a bargain. I'd just echo the sentiments of others about making sure its in a decent part of town - especially if you have a nice car. Your best bet is usually a place in the suburbs rather than closer to downtown/the business district.

You may also want to explore the name chains like Candlewood, Residence, etc. May pay a few bucks more but less likely to be concerned about the environment usually. Plus frequent stay programs can get free nights when you travel elsewhere.

An employer will pick up your lodging temporarily on a new job since you've been hired from another state in many cases...part of your moving expenses as well.

The only problem with that, and it turns out to be a HUGE problem ... can't have pets.

Fortunately, doesn't look like I'm going to have any problems finding a nice apt for around $600 a month. And most apts in the area seem to be picking up either TV or internet or both. Must be a renter's market in Charlotte.

Any lower than $199 a week and I may be a bit concerned about safety. You may want to check tripadvisor reviews on potential candidates.

Thanks, I've gotten favorable reports about the area. It's situated in an industrial park area and surrounded by new car dealerships and new shops and fast food restaurants.

Okay, I've found a spacious, one-bedroom apartment in South Charlotte, ten minutes from my new job. My employer is a preferred customer of the leasing company. So I get a sizeable discount off the admin fee. $750 a month includes: cable TV and internet, full kitchen, washer and dryer. Quiet residential neighborhood. Walled-off patio for dogs.
Will keep my options open, but this looks good.

Wow...worlds apart from southern California.
It's almost $750 alone for TV and internet.
But sleeping on the street is priceless.
