Patriots just signed Danny Amendola, he'll do the exact same thing Welker did. No loss at all.

He can't make guys miss tackles.
Dood, he had 1,300 receiving yards in the NFL last year. Wake up. Please step away from the ripple. And last year wasn't his first good year. He is a greta player.
Your second post saying lots of guys would be good if this that and the other is just nonsense. Don't give me "ifs." Welker gets it done. Give him his due.

he runs (mainly) drag routes where brady hits him on the run and a 5 yard pass turns into an 11 yard gain because he's weaving his way through a zone and runs into a linebacker's zone or has another favorable matchup.
you ever see welker run an out route and do a toe tap to get his two feet in bounds to make a catch? how often does he run a deep post or go route? if you had a "catch" or "target" chart the way basketball has a shot chart on players, i guarantee you the majority of his catches are caught within ten yards of the line of scrimmage on the run or a wr screen. very little deep. very little outside the numbers. mostly short and over the middle in front of coverage
he puts up better numbers than larry fitzgerald. he's no larry fitzgerald

99,
he plays mostly in the slot, right? so i'll file it under no duh that he runs a lot of short quick patterns over the middle.
but, i do respect your opinion so its cool either way.

Technically true that he will make less this year than last year, but only because he was franchised last year. This is actually about 20% more than the Pats were offering him this time around. So, not truly a pay cut over what he would've made if he stayed in NE.

Talk about a WR living a charmed life - Welker will have had arguably the two best QBs in the NFL over the last 15 or so years throwing to him for his entire career.

i respect yours as well and believe the majority would side with you.
this response says it all to me though. yes, he is almost exclusively in the slot. if he were "great", you could line him up anywhere

Surprised he didn't resign in NE. Must be his wife's fault.

Shoddy reasoning on Welker here. Remember just last year when the Pats seemed to be "taking a stand" and not getting Welker the ball early? The sky was falling. They finally swallowed their pride and went back to him and magically got back to running it up on people. Started 1-2 including a loss to Arizona.
Edelman couldn't replicate Welker. Amendola looks the part, but I'll go waaay out on a limb and predict something much less than 5 seasons of 111+ catches and another 86 catch season, with far fewer than 6500 yards and 37 TDs. But I guess time will tell.
And if you can get Welker on your FF team next year, do it. Amendola--proceed with caution.

Heh, I knew that point would be brought up. No reason to think they'll win less with Welker.

Amendola can't stay healthy while Welker is tough as nails. No way he matches Welker's production.

Sometimes me thinks people confuse talent with production. What good is talent if it is not available? Andre Debose has talent but no production. Give me a Chris Doering any day. Maybe not the most gifted but produces. That is Welker at the pro level.

Welker's one of the best in the game at what he does, but he's also limited- he's not going deep against #1 corners, he's not running posts, he's a slot reciever who excels at finding space and getting quick separation--- or to put it another way as a poster already said-- he puts up better numbers than Fitzgerald, he's not as good as Fitzy.

he started his career in miami, I don't know who the qb was when he was there, but I'm sure he was terrible

Dolphins had the chance to sign some QB named Brees at the time and they passed on it, broseph.

Welker and Fitz play essentially different positions. It isn't Welker's role to stretch the field vertically because Welker, as a slot guy, mostly exploits the middle of the field and under coverages. So comparing Welker to Fitz just so you can diminish Welker is BS.
I like the anology of Doering vs. Dubose.
Athletically, Debose is gifted. Doering, while not a plow horse, isn't exactly jaw dropping in his skill set. Yet, production wise it isn't even close. And when the game is on the line who would you rather have on the field? Don't lie and say Dubose.
It was Doering who made key ctach after key catch in clutch situations. Welker has done as much for the Pats. It is the difference between fantasy football and real football.
I rest my case.
