That's what I love about this administration, in spite of the sequester, they can still keep their constituents well funded, if not well fed.

A little less time licking and a little more time walking ought to cure this problem.

Really ridiculous. What percentage of obese lesbians make up our population? Anyone know? Most likely less than 1%.

Yeah, but haven't you noticed? The tail wags the dog in our country now.
I have a win-win solution, though. Have the obese lesbians walk people through the White House on tours. The obese lesbians get exercise and schoolchildren get tours of the White House.

Going to have to disagree even if it seems ridiculous on its face. The history of health studies in the US has been one primarily on men, in particular average white men. But since most citizen's are not average white men, this posed methodological and substantive problems. That changed over the past few decades so it not only makes sense to study small micropopulations of like folk, given the problem role of obesity in the US and its effect on public health, and apparently it's more acute among lesbian women, there is a not just a rational but reasonable basis for such a study.

So, because in your opinion the history of health studies in the US have been primarily on white men. And since most citizens aren't average white men(although, if you're going to break it up, are there more white men in this country than white women? Or black men? or black women? etc) which has changed over the post few decades -- this is some kind of justification for studying a literally minuscule group of people? It's just a stupid study - They get obese for the exact same reasons that everyone else does. A combination of genetic traits, poor eating habits, and lack of exercise.

CNSNews.com) – The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded $1.5 million to study biological and social factors for why “three-quarters” of lesbians are obese and why gay males are not, calling it an issue of “high public-health significance."

Totally blows the whole male fantasy version of lesbians out of the water.

Low self esteem can often lead to slothfulness & an unhealthy life style. But it will be interesting what that 1.5 million will reveal.

Fat lesbians are obese for the same reason as fat heterosexual girls. Too many calories in too few burned... Crebb cycle?

Not everyone is the same. Advances in knowledge about health are made by studying micropopulations, as well as general populations, but the problem was generalizing to entire populations from a biased sample. It could very well be some underlying gene(s) lies at the root multiple things such as lesbianism and obesity.
That you think it's stupid is one thing, I get that. But that you proclaim to know everything about the causes is laughable.
