US Demands China Crack down on CyberSpying

I'll have to admit, I don't approve of much the Obama Administration does in the foreign policy arena, but they've been spot-on with just about everything we're doing these days in Asia and out-foxing the Chinese on their own turf.

Obama getting the cohones to officially call the Chinese out on this was a needed step and it was a step only the US could take. But I suspect that with the US taking the lead on this, a bunch of European governments and companies will soon follow suit--then South Korea/Japan...and pretty soon you'll have a global consensus to really shame China into compliance.

Which I've long argued is what's needed. China doesn't always play by the rules, but they can't stand losing face to foreigners. Calling them out and shaming them is the best way of handling situations like these...like we handled piracy in Chinese waters that had the blessing of their military for 6-7 years in the late 80s and early 90s.

I'd be more impressed if Obama called out his own gang, even if it isn't as bad here. Yet.

It's my fault for calling the thread "cyberspying" rather than "cyber hacking"--because there is a distinct difference.

Every country spies on each other, so some degree of cyber spying is tolerated and accepted. What distinguishes what the Chinese are doing is that they go after non-governmental entities and steal intellectual property, patents, commercial licenses, and many other things without paying for them--and reverse-engineering everything they steal to mass-produce it cheaper than Western countries can make it.

Like Obama or not (and I certainly don't), he's right to call China out on this crap. It only hurts our country and American jobs.

Me too. Though on that note, I'd be more impressed if people on both sides of the aisle and those in the media would focus their attention more on the agencies doing the snooping and on congress who actually can pass the laws to limit the abuse. And really in many ways, we give congress too much of a pass, particularly when the power swings toward the side we like.

Obama will turn this into a reason to monitor Americans on the internet we now enjoy, and we'll be the ones with the new "laws" that restrict our use of it... Just wait and see - this Marxist won't miss this chance to put into law new regulations on Americans and our use of the internet.
