So...my hopes of a deep run are pretty much shot.
I just don't get this team. What is it about blowing a decent lead late in games? At this point, I really don't see how this team is going to win a championship this year. No killer instinct whatsoever.
This team needs to take a long hard look at themselves and decide where they want their season to end, because quite frankly, its getting embarrassing constantly blowing these leads

I'm definitely concerned about the tournament. We have the skills to win go a long way, but we haven't shown enough this year for me to trust these guys in close games and games away from Gainesville.

As long as we don't play a close game in the tourney, we will do ok. If it's close, this team plays tight and scared. No one on this team can make plays down the stretch this year when it is a tough game.

The key will be getting a lead and holding onto it. There have been tournament runs (Kentucky's last year) where a team never has a tight game at the end. If we do, you can pretty much count on us losing it.

To be fair, they may be improving the art of choking, didn't even score in the last 8 mins. That's a new level even for these seniors.
Honestly, its going to take frazier or a younger player with less experience of failing in these situations to break this mental schnide.

Thats the problem isn't it? We do get a lead. But unless we are in the midst of a big run and that lead balloons to 10+ in a hurry this group folds. I wish it wasn't true, but they have proved it numerous times.

why would your hopes be dashed? hopes should always be there. you may need to prepare differently or adjust your expectations. hope should always be present, though.
we're still in the process of getting WY back and MF2 back into form.
a road loss at rupp doesn't sink this season at all.
each game is something to build on, learn from and make the necessary adjustments.
we need to find a way to get the win in a tough/close game at the end. like we did vs bama. need to solve that riddle when we're away from home. we haven't done it yet, but that doesn't preclude us from doing it.

Nice to see someone who understands the game of basketball and realizes these things.
WY is still playing back in to shape and played extended minutes today.
We also had not much of anything to play for against a team that had everything to lose.
Many strange 50-50 bounces that didn't go our way. And, let's be honest, the 8 minute scoreless stretch was a complete anomally, which I would much rather see happen today than 2 weeks from today.
Folks need to lighten up a bit and have some perspective.

Time for this team to build and peak. No more of this nonsense. The losses have been soo oooo disappointing this year..............but, they have been close.

Unfortunately, that kind of stretch with a lead hasn't been an anamoly for this group of players. its cost us some big games. in fact, except for KSU, I'm pretty sure than all our losses going back to the elite 8 last year were ones where we went cold after getting a late lead.

Stop making excuses for them. This is a big problem that they can't seem to perform in close games down the stretch. They have shown this 5 times this year, and in our previous 3 NCAA tournament experiences.

You don't have to play the other arena. Just the five guys on the other side. And without Noel, the five guys on the other side are an NIT team. We score 2 baskets in the last two segments, one each segment, and we win that basketball game. Think about that. A scoring rate of equivalent of 20 points a game wins the game. And we can't do that. Flat pathetic. No other word for it.

With rupp, you kind of do. Don't know what it is about the place, but it is a pain to get a win in no matter the team playing in it.

Arkansas as well.
But really, it is just about this team's inability to handle any form of adversity. Early, late, whenever. Some of this is probably too much pop psychology, as a streaky shooting team will naturally have bad runs. However, 0-6 on the road against NCAA/NIT caliber teams is flat pathetic and they should honestly be ashamed of themselves for such a poor effort.

Disagree. We handled adversity most of the season by winning the conference while rarely fully healthy all season.

When it comes down to make or break time in a close game these guys commit unforced errors and miss shots they make throughout the rest of the game, including layups, short floaters, and jump hooks. If you can't see this through all of our losses so far this year then I don't know what you're looking at. They get too tense when the pressure is on. I think Billy should bring in a sports psychologist before we get into the tourney games.

I believe they have lost a total of twice at home since Cal went there. There's a reason for that other than just being good at any given time.
