46 Million People On Food stamps

Got this from another site but how true it is

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

Hard to reconcile that with having made them easier to get and being accepted for more. That holds more with someone thinking there weren't enough. Then there is the poorly kept secret that SS disability has doubled not because of a typhoon of workplace accidents, but because it has been winkingly turned into unemployment substitution.

Of the 20 or so people I know who are on unemployment, want to stay on unemployment. Sad part is their skills 2 or 3 years later are absolutely useless. I told my cub scout mom who has a MBA to get off her butt and get back into into the work force before she is stuck forever. No dice. I feel sorry for her son who will have to go through all of that. It's one thing to use the last 3 years going to college and getting a new career but to stay home and do nothing at all and then expect handouts from the rest of us....makes me want to shake their hand with my katana.

Prepackaged food for a week based on size of family. After 26/52 weeks of help with no requirements must present signed form showing you performed 3 hours of community service per dependent (total hours for household so everyone or just one can pitch in for the hours) receiving prepackaged food for the week.

Disability is another story.. being born a the ghetto or trailer park or born into a poor family isn't an excuse to be a dead beat living off the gubment teet for the rest of their lives.

Or just stop letting the government kill jobs (with their massive over-regulations) so that all those people can get back to work.

260lb lady in front of me just bought a large bag of ruffles, some super sugary premixed fruit punch, and a soda for breakfast at the gas station. Using her EBT card.

Glad I could help her pay for that.

Nothing has changed as far as the requirements

Just the amount of people on them due to the recession

So you want less people needing assistance then properly regulate the the financial markets

The only ones sheltered from the busts that follow the booms are the top

You also have to factor in that the Government recently changed the school free lunch (and breakfast) to anyone that comes in. It used to be need based although it was mostly fraud. As with everything the Gov does, the schools could not force the parents to prove need.

Give out commodities. It is ridiculous some of the things people buy with an EBT card. Most of it is what I would consider junk.

Subsidizing food costs seems like one of the least offensive and most effective things the gov't could do to combat poverty and low & stagnating private sector wages. No wonder conservatives hate food stamps and hedge their argument on "dependency." Whenever that word comes out, you know the government is actually doing something effectively.
