Oberlin cancels classes due to graffiti

I just can't get over this.

Someone with the mentality of a 12 year old posts some idiotic signs, probably because he knows it will get a reaction, and there is a sighting of someone with a KKK sheet but it could have been a towel, and Oberlin cancels classes?

I don't get it.

It's a pretty small school, seems like instead of class they are doing a school assembly to discuss what's been going on. Its probably not something you could do at a big state school with 10k+ students. Having attended a massive state school like UF where having a school assembly is basically impossible, I really have no frame of reference when it comes to what goes on at liberal arts schools with only 3000 students. Its probably more of a "small town" vibe.

In lieu of classes, college administrators asked students, faculty and staff to "gather for a series of discussions of the challenging issues that have faced our community in recent weeks," a statement on Oberlin's website said.

"We hope today will allow the entire community — students, faculty, and staff —to make a strong statement about the values that we cherish here at Oberlin: inclusion, respect for others, and a strong and abiding faith in the worth of every individual," the statement said.
