ESPN is pro revenue and ratings. SEC football is legit, but even if it wasn't you know it'd get a good amount of attention because of the amount of interest in that area. Unless something from SEC basketball is going to have broad, national appeal, it doesn't get much play.

The SEC is weak, but the ACC isn't much better. That doesn't stop the talking heads from going on and on and on and on about Duke and Miami.

Kentucky is blue-blood basketball. We are Johnny Come Lately in the basketball world. A few more championships for Billy and we will get our respect. Not saying it isn't deserved, but there is a pecking order.
For our team this year - under the radar seems like a nice place to be!

I saw highlights of the game on SportsCenter last night.

I agree they're not much better, but they've got Duke at the top right now competing with a surprising Miami team. They're a conference that contains within it a geographical area that probably (this is my assumption) cares more about college basketball and consumes more of it. They're a better conference historically as well - at least as far as having multiple "basketball" schools that grab national attention.
The SEC sees a Florida team (without any superstars - think national marketability) absolutely drubbing 13 other poor to mediocre teams in the conference. Florida plays great team defense and has a future HOF coach, but ESPN probably hasn't even considered how to market this when they've got Coach K and the Cameron Krazies vying for a 1 seed. They've got players that are more in the "household name" category as well (relatively at least) with guys like Curry, Kelly and the 7 Plumblee brothers.
I don't like it and you don't like it. We're more interested in Patric Young and Billy D. ESPN doesn't have us in mind though.

It's not like duke has much more championships than Florida in the last 20 years. It's a joke, Florida is the most complete all around well gelled athletic school in America. We compete at football, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, golf, lacrosse, track, swimming, soccer... Not only do we compete, Florida wins multiple championships every year and its un noticed. If it were OSU or USC, they would go for weeks with broadcast of those teams and stories. You give these hard working kids their credit when it's due, don't be biased... They are all about Gonzaga and they haven't played anyone! And after duke and Miami... Who the hell does the ACC have, and Miami sucks so really only duke! I have noticed over the last couple years that ESPN will literally go out of its way to not talk about Florida... And last football season, the gator highlights were never on, if they were they would show one running touchdown, or one defensive play then say the score, I wish gators would make their own station id get it and pay for that station only!!

You don't want something akin to the longhorn network. Trust me is horrible for the fans and expensive. They also block out many games locally.
We get fair coverage. I wish Billy would get his due, but if we go the the FF this year we will become an elite program for sure, specially considering the talent we are getting for next year.

I don't think being relevant in hoops for the last 15 years or so with 3 final 4s and 2 NC's can be considered Johnny Come Lately. When would you suggest we turn that corner?

Team ball is for purists. The Entertainment and Sports Programming Network ONLY cares about stars.

Wow. Just in basketball, right? ESPN is basically SECSPN for football.
They're all against us, I guess.

Are people really upset that there aren't big headlines for Florida beating a sub .500 team at home?

No. For winning the conference title and cutting down the nets, yes. They didn't even show the highlights on Sportscenter live this morning. Shyt is disrespectful. Let us lose to UK saturday though in a meaningless game, it will open the telecast.

Put it this way, if a team from the BIG whatever had clinched their conference championship by beating one of their cellar dwellars, you think ESPN would've had ignored it and not bothered with a headline?

Never thought I'd see the day where a UF board had a thread complaining about not getting ESPN coverage.

It's not basketball that ESPN hates but because of all the media attention in football. The SEC has dominated football for so many years that any down year in basketball is news. Had we lost to Vandy, it would have made their front page since the championship would have possibly come down to the game at Rupp (at worst, we would have had to share the title with Kentucky).

But I'm sure that has to do with ESPN being big on the SEC, NBC having rights to Notre Dame, FOX having rights to big 12 and PAC 12, I mean in all honesty CBS and my local SEC network usually shows two games each, that's 8 teams, but from 12 noon till 11 at night there is usually a Big 10 game, and or Big East, yes ESPN has games that are SEC no doubt, but I'm not sure that say ESPN is all SEC more than the analyst and announcers are, that and they were smart to jump on the TV market bandwagon before CBS could. They know the games they show will have better audience than the rest outside of Syracuse vs Connecticut or Illinois vs Purdue, who actually watches those games other than the locals? SEC games sell.

If the conference race wasn't in doubt and the team everyone expected to win the conference all year long did so by beating a losing team, yeah I don't think it would get headlines.
The MWC is rated higher than the SEC this year, and I didn't see New Mexico get any headlines for winning that last week.
If ESPN was so biased against Florida how come so many of their games are broadcasted on their networks?

It's a business. They do what maximizes profits. If more people clicked on the stories, they would run more of them. I don't think "hating the gators" goes into the equation.

Agreed 100%. The last time I watched anything on ESPN other than a sporting event was 2006. My life is much better.
