Damn hippies!
I .. just ... don't ... know ...

Voucher schools in Louisiana and Indiana are using a “US History” textbook in their eighth grade classes that teaches that the “hippies” of the 1960s were draft dodgers who were rude, didn’t bathe, and worshipped Satan.

But ...

“[The Ku Klux] Klan in some areas of the country tried to be a means of reform, fighting the decline in morality and using the symbol of the cross. Klan targets were bootleggers, wife-beaters, and immoral movies. In some communities it achieved a certain respectability as it worked with politicians.”—United States History for Christian Schools, 3rd ed., Bob Jones University Press, 2001

And we don't want to get into those kindly slave owners or dinosaurs and people ...

Can't get the link to work. Going by what you posted, that's irresponsible. And what book is it?

Well, hell, people were worried that these schools couldn't deliver the same caliber of instruction as the government schools. Should be reassuring.

The article is wrong too. The hippies weren't called satan worshippers, just the rock stars they followed, which a number of them were. The description of hippies are unfortunately correct - most were unbathed, wore unconventional clothing (of which many were ragged and worn). Most hippies were antisocial, ignored law enforcement or other established rules. Most were pacifist but you don't have to be combative to disrupt society. Rock music defined the hippie movement, of which some of it was really good. Drugs and sex were common place too.

Also, the info the article produced before the Hippie segment are no any more outlandish than what is taught in schools today (or conveniently not taught).
Dragons for one are described in many ancient texts within various cultures. Coincidence? I'm not sure. The idea of the Flood also is found in many cultures yet most of the literature was written during a time when none of the cultures even knew one another existed.
Good KKK? Maybe. I don't know for sure, anyone know for sure?
It is a fact many slaves were treated well. But, a slave is still a slave no matter how well they were treated. Again, who are we to say anything about a time that used slavery as commonplace? What would someone of that time say about us? With our barbaric tattoos and piercings? They probably would think us very strange and scary.
I won't pass judgement until I actually read the book and is this book being used in all voucher schools or just one or 2?

Whenever I hear the KKK mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is "oh yeah, that group that hates bootleggers, wife-beaters, and immoral movies".

And a "force for good".
As with all forces for good, a mask must be used to conceal their goodness... they're like Batman... with pointy heads.

The KKK often made handy union-busters too. They were always looking to rough up some commie union organizers or uppity workers. I mean, besides that whole racial violence thing, theres a lot of stuff conservatives can get behind there!

I think Jimmy Page and some other dudes had a fascination with Aleister Crowley. But the nature of rock is to court an air of danger and a defiance of prevailing morality. That is not "worship" though, its just posturing.

Another book from Bob Jones used in Louisiana schools. Science, no less.

Yeah, the Flintstones proved definitatively that man and dinosaur coexisted. I didnt need some fancy "science" book to tell me that.
