Rand Paul filibuster of Brennan nomination
Anyone been watching this on cspan2? It's been going on for around 5 hours and has crossed party lines. My understanding is Brennan won't take domestic drone strikes off the table, but they're could be more to it. I like that's it's not a procedural filibuster but an old school, talk-till-you-drop filibuster.

Yeah, this is how it should be. Props to Paul on this, the old school filibuster and making something out of an issue that needs more discussion. A procedural filibuster wouldnt get nearly as much attention.

^ Agree'd with these two. Definitely an interesting and cool thing he's doing, and definitely something we should be talking about a bit more!

People from both parties sticking up for the constitution. Imagine that!

I think the support and resistance to this policy is bipartisan. Unfortunately, the support far outweighs the resistance in both voting power and political representation. Civil libertarians are pretty small in number in the GOP and Democratic party, and the media for that matter.

What's interesting is I imagine if you asked people if domestic drone strikes on non-combative targets is acceptable and I'd guess it would be an almost universal "No." But somehow you are correct, and this will be a non issue.

Poor Rand. At some point during that diatribe he's going to slip and stick out his ankle for the biters. Then he'll never hear the end of it.

Sure, when you phrase it that way. But when you say "to kill Islamic terrorists" many people are ok with it.

True. But what if we phrased it as "to kill US citizens accused of Islamic terrorism that have not yet had due process?"
Then it gets interesting

He is doing some damn good talking, especially considering he is now over six hours into this. He might just talk his way to the front of the pack of GOP 2016 contenders if he keeps this up.

Thanks for the link -- amazing that the guy is still going, still making solid points, and apparently not ready to slow down just yet.

Esp. if you add "and accept any collateral damage to non combatants." Do you agree with that? Also if they are not an immediate threat, are you OK with that? Also since you're fairly liberal, I suppose you're OK with Obama's promises. Also how about the next president (maybe he's not so kind.)

Sen. Jerry Moran (R, KS) is giving Sen. Paul a breather by asking him a loooooong, drawn-out question.

He's reading a series of articles from various sources raising concerns about the expansion of 0bama's drone war.
I truly believe that Rand Paul would be standing there doing the same thing if this policy was being carried forward by the fledgling administration of a President Romney. The difference is, in that case lots of Democrats would be joining him.

Heck, he was actually eating something a few minutes ago while he was talking. Let's see how long it takes that to end up on SNL.
