Plagued by high inflation, food shortages, power outages, and mounting debt, Venezuela has become one of the most economically dysfunctional nations in the Western Hemisphere. It has also become one of the most murderous. According to the independent Venezuelan Observatory of Violence (OVV), the country suffered no fewer than 21,692 homicides in 2012, up from 19,336 in 2011. Its national murder rate (73 per 100,000) is among the highest anywhere in the world, and easily the highest in South America. The homicide rate in Caracas is much, much steeper — the OVV has estimated that it was 200 per 100,000 in 2011 — making Venezuela’s capital arguably the most dangerous city on earth. (In one especially embarrassing incident in August 2010, a Hong Kong baseball player participating in the Women’s Baseball World Cup at a Caracas stadium was wounded in the leg by a stray bullet.)

It's too bad Chavez died before Dennis Rodman had a chance to go befriend him.

It was unfair to Bush, because Bush couldn't help it. He got the sulphur smell from Dick Cheney.

Sean Penn told him to back off...only one dictator per has-been celebrity.

I thought it was hilarious. But I don't think Bush is the devil, or all that evil.

You'd probably say I was "manipulated" by the BLS too.

Are you talking about Obama or Chavez? I'm confused. Because its pretty much the same stuff from you guys about both.
But please feel free to debunk those UN stats or offer your own. Until then, your dismissal doesnt mean all that much.

Obama is a small government, laizze faire capitalist compared to Chavez. There is no relationship whatsoever. But you are not going to convince anyone that the agenda-laden UN documentation is legitimate. The toothless UN is worthless and their information has not been taken seriously for years.
The poverty rate in Venezuela has not substantially lowered. Indeed, there are more poor people now than before Chavez took power (population among the poor rose). But what we DO know is like all tinpot dictators, Chavez vastly enriched himself and his family with Venezuelan oil revenues. No wonder he never wanted to leave, and he abolished term limits...

The moral of this story: Don't go to Cuba for cancer treatment.

Well, maybe you have some "legitimate" statistical evidence you can supply WRT your assertion about the poverty rate?
Look, there's no doubt that Chavez was a serial mismanger of public funds. But I don't see the problem in admitting that he succeeded in reducing the level of poverty in the country. He doubled GDP too, but the country is in a somewhat perilous state because of that serial mismanagement and paranoid leadership. But I mean, he had to have some level of popular support to rule for so long. Part of that was using the country's natural wealth to reduce poverty. The other part was buying military hardware and siphoning off money for himself and his family.
