Question for geeks or techies
If some anonymous person sends you an email...is there a way to find out who they are just from the address?
Maybe any garden-variety computer geek can answer this question.

If you have their IP address or a domain name it will show you who they really are.

So you're asking how to get the IP address or Domain name without opening up the letter? That's a bit different.
Put it in a safe place first.

What is the email address? If it is something like user123@gmail.com or user123@yahoo.com then no, unless you have warrants. If it is something like user@somesmallwebsite.com, then maybe depending on the privacy of the domain. Chances are no though.

Good point about the headers. Depending on the source there may be enough to narrow it down.

Yepper, the header is the key to finding out about a suspect Email's origin.

If you were one or the other it would be prudent to get a dynamic IP address and MAC address generator first.

I was the recipient of a threatening (though I believe random) email.
It included language like "bullet to the head" type stuff.
It might be business related....or monkey business related.
