Thankful for the Meyer years but really disappointed in how he left here. He left a huge mess and took another job after claiming he was burned out or sick or whatever the story of the week was.

I think you got it backwards. You said something I didn't agree with, and I told you I didn't agree with what you said. There is a difference between that, and turning this into yet another Meyer versus Spurrier thread.

Why do people get to take jabs and then get upset when somebody has the audacity to not agree with them?

Actually, you need to go back and read your posts, but only after you brush up on your reading and retention skills. I didn't mention anything about Spurrier. You brought up the Meyer versus Spurrier thing. I simply stated we've had enough of those recently.

Second Point- If I take out the Bob Stoops years Spurrier could never win the big one at all.
I say this because when UM arrived at UF, it was loaded with talent, NC talent. Do you really believe that the team UM left behind was NC talent? Plus you did not have the all the arrest, players being kicked off or players transfering to other schools. And even with Zook as HC, the team played well and showed a ton of promise. When UM left, the team had ZERO amount of unity and the 1% of the 1% were not even getting in a year before leaving for whatever reasons. And EVERYONE knew the year UM left that we had some bad years ahead of us and in need of a coach to come in here and get things back to the Gator way. Where kids play with heart and a brotherhood again, while staying out of trouble. Like I said, I am not comparing UM's team 3 years prior. I said he left the program in worse shape than when he arrived.

The team went 11-2 last year and Urban recruited most of those players. The program has a higher profile than ever after Urban left. He left the program in better shape than he arrived.

I have to agree with this ... and I've never liked Urban.

This- the 2006 team had some freshman impact players, and two starting secondary guys weren't on the team when Meyer arrived honestly Meyer left a with more talent of the roster than the one he inherited- or do people just think the 2010 class- you know the one that was the backbone of our defense this year and will end producing at least 4 possibly more top 50 draft picks and was regarded at the time as arguably the best defensive class ever recruited-- was a bunch low talent guys who overachieved thanks to Boom?

If you go through the 2012 team and the 2006 title team you'll see the talent inherited is very, very similar with the only real difference being that Meyer was more willing to adapt his offensive scheme to the talent on hand than Muschamp-- each is heavily junior and senior driven with a handful of impact recruits sprinkled in.

Exactly, and this is why it was a horrible idea to make objective criteria for inclusion into the Ring of Honor. When the original criteria was established, the All-America standards was three, which kept out Wilber Marshall. The standard was changed to accommodate Wilber, who certainly was deserving. Will the Powers That Be change to standard to keep someone out?

If so, the whole idea behind the Ring of Honor is a joke. Personally, I thought the criteria of a MNC winning one MNC and/or three SEC titles was also weak, as is a player's NFL accomplishments, which is irrelevant to college football. why not make the MNC winning QB eligible for the Ring?

The LPGA Hall of Fame has always been considered a joke because it set objective criteria, in the form of number of tournament wins, for inclusion. What if a great golfer who was spectacular for five years, is denied because she is five wins short of qualifying?

What if baseball said a pitcher has to win 200 games to gain admittance into Cooperstown? That would, of course, rule out Koufax, Dizzy Dean and all the relievers.

Even if the Gator's so-called "heavy hitters" hate Meyer, if they attempt to change the criteria to exclude him, then what is the Ring of Honor worth?

Nothing...

I don’t think it will happen while he is still actively coaching another program, but
It is inevitable and deserved that he will be put in the ring of honor..

. Now that being said I loved him when he was a gator but I have nothing for him now and while I don’t hate him I don’t pull for him to have success outside of coaching the gators

There is a LOT more to the program than just one season.

We have new and better facilities. New traditions. More money. More championships. A much better record vs our rivals. And far more good memories than bad from the Meyer years. We learned we could win big without Spurrier, and that was critical to the overall success of the program moving forward. The program as a whole was in far better shape in 2011 than it was in 2005.
