Sinkhole in Seffner
....swallows a Bush. (Jeffrey Bush).
Can't even imagine the horror of hearing your own brother scream for you to help save him.

It's been on the local news quite a bit. Not sure they will be able to save him . The ground area under the house is so unstable that emergency responders had to withdraw. The brother fell into the hole when he tried to save his brother who was deep down in the pit and was crying for help. A tragic situation. A guy trying to save his brother.

This is one crazy-ass world Ray.
Not sure I've ever seen anything like that on a Death Certificate before.

Amazing. Siting in your house, the safest place one could imagine, absolutely nothing you can do.
Is there any way to know what areas might be susecptible to becoming a sinkhole? The oddest ones are the ones in the middle of the street in other countries.

When something like this happens, all I can say is it is your time to go. The man was in his bed and all the sudden BAM! The outside of the house did not even look bad.

I remember back in the 60's hearing about a guy around High Springs that had a Sink Hole fall in from under him and his horse.
Not sure they ever found him.

My neighbor across the street just had over 700 cubic yds of grout pumped under his house. I'm sure when they finish with the structural repairs to the house itself it will cost close to $200,000. They have been living for over 2 years with a house that was crumbling. It's an interesting story because their insurance company went bankrupt during the claim settlement and the state is eating the bill out of some fund that covers bankrupt insurance companies. That is why it took 2 years to get the repairs done.

Latest on the news is that have given up up on trying to save the guy. They are assuming the 36 year old man has died. Also it is has now been classified as a cavern because it is spreading much larger than just an ordinary sinkhole. All homes in the neighborhood have now been evacuated.

I'm probably lucky. My house in Tampa was seventy feet above a huge artesian artery coming flowing directly from Zephyr Hills. We had a pump. No city water. Just Zephyr Hills spring water to drink, make ice, wash our dishes, bathe in and wash our cars. Never thought about what would happen if that thing collapsed. It supposedly took up half our block. There were stories about how people from south Tampa used to take the trolley up to our neighborhood just after the turn of the century, paying good money to fill jugs of water from enterprising home owners.
Best drink I ever had was a Vodka and OJ made from Valencia oranges picked in our back yard and squeezed minutes before the the juice was squeezed over ice cubes made from Zephyr Hills spring water. Had one of those once or twice a week for three years. If that thing every did open up and swallow me, It sure would have been nice to have one of those drinks in my hand. "God giveth and God taketh away."

Is this sinkhole business a limestone thingy?
The ground water around Tampa is so bad...your washer hose will clog up within 3 to 5 years.
Everyone needs purifiers or they're drinking some really nasty stuff.

Pretty scary. I never considered the thought of going to bed worried about my bed being there the next morning, much less my house. Talk about the bottom falling out. Wow.

I'm not a real religious man but if I woke up and my bed was sinking into the ground I'd be doing some serious praying. The devil ain't gettin me without a fight.

The engineers out there are colleagues and friends of mine. Sombering situation for sure.
I ve done thousands of sinkhole investigations in my career and had a few close calls with holes opening up but this is crazy.

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president." Author Unknown
