Graham is just worried about a primary challenge. He used to be considered a moderate, now he is running to the right in order to fend off any tea party type candidate.
I dont think anyone got "owned". Both screamed at each other and neither got a point across. I am 100% for background checks before any exchange of guns but the federal government is not prosecuting the existing cases.

Graham is a fool carrying water for La Pierre and other fools. This argument is like saying we should judge the effectiveness of speed limit signs by how many tickets are written. The point isn't the tickets, it's the vast majority of people who at least stay close to the posted speed limit because of them, and in this case, the number of felons who don't try, at least the places where the check is required. Extend that check to now exempted legal purchases and you don't eliminate, but limit opportunities for them to purchase.
I know someone who prosecutes gangs and violent crimes at the federal level and like this sheriff, he isn't going to waste his time and valuable resources on "paper chases". Graham forgets any case has to be brought to a judge and jury, who are not automatically going to send someone to jail - where space is a limited resource - for trying to buy a gun they were ultimately denied. Everyone in the system has more important fish to fry with more effective results According to my contact, give them a minimum federal sentence guideline for felons caught in possession of a gun - there is none now - so they don't have to also catch them with drugs, or some other crime that does carry minimum sentencing guidelines. F..king no brainer.

Of course, and in a perfect world you would arrest them and prosecute, but police and prosecutors:
1 Have to spend time and other resources bringing a prosecution.
2 Judges and juries have to agree it's crime and then set punishment. How likely are they to give serious time to someone who walked out of a store without a gun?
3 Police and prosecutors usually have bigger fish to fry with the possibility of more rewarding results for them and society.
My contact told me the same thing the Milwaukee Police Chief told Graham.

How about looking at the facts by the people who do this for a living - fight criminals like police and prosecutors that is, not bloviators like Graham.
Why don't we agree on closing the loopholes on background checks and creating a federal minimum sentencing guideline for felons caught with a gun. Neither of those are partisan, right? Common sense solutions, right? The first having wide support among all Americans, the latter not known by many, but a no brainer, right?

Yep. Its amazing the amount of energy/time people put forth to argue for/against something they know is incorrect/wrong---but they do it b/c they have projected so much of their self-worth into how well their team (side) does.
