Default Without Yeguette, teams muscle us under the boards

UT dominated us on putbacks. Mizzou's Bowen did the same. Without Yeguette, we are a sweet 16 team, nothing more.

Without Frazier, 1-13 in 3 point shooting in the second half. Tired legs.

It is as simple as that.

It's starting to look like a, 'wait until next year' team.

I disagree. Both will be back and I think we are a Final Four team.

But without them, we will lose to taller teams with veteran backcourts.

That's a bit much. This team is very dangerous when at full strength and soon we will be again.

Rebounding doesn't require advanced offensive skills, but it does require effort, guts and want to. Even a blind hog can find a few RB's per game.
Pitiful... even disgusting.

A big part of our problems, for sure. The other problems are that we aren't hitting squat beyond the arc and Young & Murphy can't get boards (or points?) to save their lives.

Live by the three ... as it were.

We're playing tight and scared, perhaps that's entirely due to Will & Frazier's absence, but I've seen this with both in. We may well trade one of those players for Prather now.

It's hard to argue that we're not playing our worst basketball of the season regardless of our depth issues.

I still don't understand how Patric Young can possess the physical skills he does and be such an average rebounder.

He shows flashes where he just out hustles his opponent to the ball, but he lacks the instincts of knowing where the ball is going to be coming off the rim.

I don't think it's hard to argue that we are playing poorly as a direct reflection of our injuries. We could have still played better last night but it all works together where one thing impacts the other.

Some of you guys probably haven't watched college basketball very long or you would know that it's not uncommon at all to see a team sputter (or appear to sputter) down the regular season stretch run and then be just fine in the Tourney.

I would mention that even our championship teams struggled down the stretch of the regular season (even without injuries), but it would invite the raging inane chorus of: "You can't compare this team to the 04's! How DARE you!!! " so I won't mention it There are plenty of other teams that have done well after struggling.

Assuming Yeguete gets back physically, I think we're going to see some hellacious defense from this team in the Tourney. Offense is harder to predict, but hopefully the defense will lead to some easy buckets as well.

Obviously who knows what happens. But we've seen a pattern emerging for beating this team, and it's hard to say some tourney team won't use that blueprint.

We finished last season losing 4 of our last 5. It obviously had a huge impact on our NCAA tourney performance....

Let's see what happens when Florida gets healthy. Collectively, Florida was a very solid rebounding team prior to Yugete's injury.

I think this team is tired period. Last night we played with barely 6 guys. I think the guys tried to conserve energy knowing they'd be playing lots of minutes and when we lost momentum it was hard to capture it. Shooting has suffered from all our players. We started out strong like we usually do but slowly sputter.

I believe when we get everyone back we will be hard to beat. The guy will get some rest come tourney time except for the last few days, but should have 4 or 5 days rest before first ncaa game. Hopefully when we have a 20 pt lead with 5 minutes to go we will see some subbing but I doubt it.

It is as simple as that.

Funny since we didn't have Yegeute last year and were an Elite 8 team.

I do agree with you about the tired legs. Good observation.

Missing Yeguete last night also really hurt our defense. He would have provided a better matchup against McRae or freed up Prather to do so.

Our problems right now do have a lot to do with injuries. They also have a lot to do with struggling on the road and not doing well closing out close games. We know we will get the injured players back, hopefully by Saturday. Let's hope that allows us to focus on building our skills in tight games, because we will have some of those in March.

Yuguete would have been knock to the ground quicker than Murphy who spent more time on the floor than on his feet. LOL

Yuguete needs to bring some offense when he comes in, because when we shoot like we did down the stretch, we need someone to be consistent with key baskets.
