I always assumed it was our mortgage. Starting last month, January 2013, I began tracking our family’s contributions to the government. Not just payroll taxes, but every single nickel-and-dime tax. I’m sure I’m not catching all the hidden fees, buried in the cost of goods.
In January, our tax expense was 192% higher than our mortgage. The first 7 working days of the month were dedicated not to shelter & food, but to giving the government our hard-earned money. Yet the government is crying that they don’t have enough money. As this gets worse, we will be working for The Company Store, slaves to the USA."
And from TinCup..
"What has gone up faster? Your Income or Your Income Taxes?
Has your budget gone up 17% since 2009?
Who is in a better position to cut 2% from their budget – You or the Government?"

But just try to suggest that we're slaves and you get this "Oh, come ON!"
Well, maybe we can settle for whiners, if not outright persecuted.

this is the point that I said was lost in the all of the Phil Michelson hoopla
that we get lost in the "he makes a lot of money" "he has no right to complain" "he didn't build that" or whatever
the important point that got missed (possibly by design) is that no one question just how much the government is actually taking

That's why I think people should get all the money THEY earned every paycheck and then have to sit down and pay a tax bill once a month. If people actually paid attention to what they are paying instead of thanking the gov't for letting them keep a portion of their paycheck more people would wake up.

and the funny thing is that the opposite is what many in government are advocating
many democrats wants a system where all pay goes through the government. they take out their share and then send the balance to the wage earner.

Heck, it's been more than 40 years since The Beatles wrote "The Taxman." The gov't found a way to get a cut out of nearly every single aspect of life. Of course, in return for all that taxation, we are promised ever more services and regulation of same. Reminds one of Reagan's quip about how gov't views business/people (paraphrase): If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it.
Notice one side chooses to mock this instead of defending or rebutting the fact. Of course, in their eyes the poster probably still isn't paying her fair share.
