Having been on many ski lifts, I'm always surprised that this doesn't happen more often. Always scary when i see little kids on lifts with no bars. Think I heard that the guy was busted up, but survived.

He did survive. Lung injury, skull fracture, but he survived.

Dumbass tried throwing a snowball at the chair filming him...
I've been on the slopes since I could walk, literally. If you fall off a lift you're doing something wrong. There's no one else to blame.

That looks like a little more than 15 feet to me.

For us non skiiers, the exit from the lift onto the top of the slope can be incredibly difficult...and that chair keeps on coming right up your backside.

I agree there is no excuse for falling out of the chair on a lift. I've often thought to myself how bad it would suck if you were to fall from one the few times I've been skiing.

...he's very lucky he fell on an incline. May have broken both legs and his back if it was flat! It's weird, at Mammoth where I ski regularly the scariest chair has no safety bars. Chair 23 goes right over jagged lava rock. On windy days I always loop my arm over the back.

The scariest chair I've been on was at Angel Fire in NM. It crossed a wide flat open area and went up the side if the mountain. There was a 175 drop down to the ground and when the left stopped there was 20-30 feet of up and down travel with only a center bar to hold on to. Thankfully they've since removed the lift.
