Florida State loses assistant Billy Napier to Alabama
The news comes just 22 days after Napier had signed his contract with FSU to become the Seminoles' newest tight ends coach. Napier will be replacing Mike Groh, who is leaving Alabama to reportedly serve as an assistant coach for the Chicago Bears.
LOL....I was just watching the FSU signing day thing on espnu and he was up there spouting how ecstatic he was to be a Clown...talk about egg being on face.
The only thing I don't like about this is the ever spiraling cycle of barely qualified coaches commanding ever increasing salaries as the "academic" institutions shell out higher and higher salaries and benefits for ever decreasing loyalty.
It has to stop somewhere and it brings out the worst in athletics where money buys championships more often than less.
Plus freaking Alabama is the worst of the worst in this arms race mentality.
It seems funny when it's REFsu they hit, but not so funny when it's us.

Add the crazy conference changes and the crapy ESPN puppeteering I see dark storms on the horizon.
I think it will kill the game as we know it.

It will certainly change it. It will only widen the gap between the top programs and the also-rans.

Foley has been quoted as saying the spiraling salaries are what the market bears. But it does seem like the higher the salaries get, the less loyalty there is -- on both sides -- from the coaches and from the schools. Increasingly, the schools demand immediate success and on the other side of the equation, the coach sees no reason to remain at a school if there's an opportunity elsewhere.

I agree. Even as a fan of one of the "haves," I don't like it. Oh, well - if money and business doesn't kill my favorite sport, the concussion issue will. Just a few years ago I thought only Brent Musberger could kill it
Time to find a politically correct sport to pass the time when I retire. What's the name of that sport in Afghanistan where they use a goat's head?
Just the law of supply and demand doing its thing. And yes, I see this as a game changer. The haves are going to separate from the have-nots, and some of those have-nots are considered to be haves today. I see college football being isolated from the remaining college sports because of it. Don't need your tennis team heading to who knows where just because the football team is aligned with some obscure group.
And if you want to see absurd grabbing and pricing, you need to watch the news right after the NBA finals. Those teams pay WAY too much for bench level of players. I still can't fathom who is writing the checks for all of the silliness in this economy.

But nobody really cares about "loyalty" anymore. The same people on this board who boldly proclaim that they're behind Muschamp, will be the same ones who will be screaming for his head if he fails to win nine games next year. Let's be real: You don't care about Muschamp. I don't really care about the guy. The majority of the Gator Nation doesn't really care about him either. They care about what he can do to win at the highest level at Florida. All the other nonsense (graduating players, getting "high-character" players, and being a disciplinarian) that people parrot around ain't worth a foodstamp if he doesn't get this team to Atlanta on a yearly basis.
Les Miles posts double-digit wins every year in Baton Rouge. A lot of fans want him out of there. For all the good that Richt has done at UGA, his career is defined more by what he hasn't done. All the people giving Saban a pat on the back, will be the first ones who question the direction of the program if he "only" wins ten games. What loyalty did a national championship earn Chizik? Two years? Go ask Randy Shannon what loyalty was given to him for graduating players, keeping them out of trouble, and doing all the other things that make for a great piece of journalism, but don't really matter. It got his a** canned, and he's at Arkansas now.
Loyalty is something the "baby boom" generation likes to complain about when they're passed up by some snot-nosed punk in his early 30s, who's willing to sell his soul, neglect his family, and be exploited by whatever organization that's bringing him onboard for the next five years, for a high-end position. The only thing that matters today, are the numbers. And in football, in this conference, it's all about championships. Not wins; championships.
Another thing: two to three years is a pretty fair amount of time given to any individual in a high-end position to oversee production. At most companies, you get a few months to come in, get your feet wet, learn the ropes, and then it's all about the numbers. That's the world we live in. People who want to talk about "how it used to be" get tossed aside and overlooked by the ones who couldn't care less what it was like.

FSU to Alabama is an upgrade.
UF to Alabama would be a lateral move. We're big enough that we need only worry about the NFL and guys leaving for promotions.

I'm actually sort of surprised Napier jumped like this after getting on board in Tally for just a few weeks, but I honestly thought at least two of these new coaches would leave after one season. Napier's sudden change of heart is telling.
There is some 'smoke' at FSU. The story is that there is a lot of dissention within the program at FSU, and it all starts with Fisher, and it goes all the way up through the chain of command to the AD and boosters. This is really nothing new of course, considering there has been some upheaval there since Bobby left and money concerns have been apparent.
But money isn't just what stole Napier from the nolies, it was also the general state of upheaval within the program there. he got to Tally and found out he didn't like it there.
This large exodus of coaches after the 2012 season has the boosters really concerned. Apparently, once Napier had gotten to know the system at FSU some, he didn't feel welcome anymore and pounced at the first opportunity, and Bama, of course, is a far better job than FSU.
A lot of the boosters there, as unrealistic as it was to think so, thought they were supposed to have won the NC one of the lst two years, especially in 2011, and that's only made it worse in clown town.

Saban grabbed Cristobal from scUM and now Napier from ref$u within a week of each other. What Nick wants, Nick gets.
Right on! Nobody likes a champion especially Nick Saban and BAMA! If I am not mistaken their D-Coor makes close to $1 million. Say what you want but, victories mean CASH MONEY!
Anybody want to post Hitler's reaction to Napier going to Bama?
