Who steps up at safety?
With Evans and Elam gone, who steps up to fill there shoes? Doesn't help that pop is gone too.....
-I'm going with Poole and Gorman but love that there's gonna be some serious competion going on there. The door is open....who's gonna walk thru it and step up? Thoughts....

I think they move Watkins to S(even though IMO hes our best corner) and Gorman is the first to replace Elam. Coach will have so many options its not even funny. Well, for Gators fans it is.

Other than QB this is the place where I'm worried the most for next year-- talent doesn't replace experience at Safety the way it does at a lot of other positions.

B Poole if he doesn't switch back to CB full time.

To me, this is easy. It's all about Keanu Neal. He's built-and hits-like Sean Taylor. At 6'1, 203 lbs, with boyish good looks, Neal is possibly the most impressive high school safety I've ever seen film of. I'll be stunned if he doesn't end up a freshman All-American.
And that's only the beginning. Jaylen Watkins would be an All-conference corner at just about any other school in America. Now he'll be the last line of defense, in what should be the best tandem of safeties across the country.
Also, keep your eyes out for Maye, Harris and Ledbetter. All three are built like linebackers, yet cover like Reggie Nelson. Keep in mind that these guys are coached up by Muschamp, who does a fantastic job. Don't be surprised when all four starters at defensive back end up on the All-conference team. We're that loaded back there. And I haven't even mentioned nickel specialist, Brian Poole. He's the next big thing around here...

I don't think he's quite as good as Harris and Neal. With Maye's rare combination of size and speed, look for him to move to outside linebacker. He has all-conference ability on the weakside.

I expect Maye to win one spot. The other spot will be between Riggs Gorman or Showers. With Purifoy moving over to offense dont think we will have the luxury of moving Watkins back there. I highly doubt they put the freshmen back at safety there is just way too much to learn.

you are probably going to be stunned then. Passing up all the people we have back there in 3 weeks will be very hard to do.

Regardless who start, it will be difficult for them to play at the level Elam did last year.

or Evans. Evans played at a real high level this year especially in the run defense. I am still not too worried about the position we have so much talent back there and CWM will have them ready to go.

Why will it be difficult. There's always new great Gators! Competition will be fierce and they will all be tested in practice by more and better playmakers.
Get out your shades!
Go Gators!!!

Agreed. We have perhaps recruited this position better than any other the past few years. We are losing a pair of very good players, but we will be ok here.

I dont think we have a choice for the spring. Only healthy scholarship WR's we have for the spring are Andre Debose, Quinton Dunbar, Latroy Pittman and Demarcus Robinson. You need Purifoy just from a numbers stand point.
