With a little luck, we'll be bracketed with Miami and everything will be fine (1085 days and counting).

Yeah, it is like you lost to them in hoops.

I'm sure the Ibis was ready to rush the floor with that bogus "State Champs" sign too.
Oh well -- Dade County champs?
And just to add -- since I'm on a Gator board - I'll say whatever I want cracking on the Canes.

So, you didn't lose to them in hoops?
Or maybe you just dropped the first of a 3 game series to them in hoops.

I knew this year would be "off" but good lord.... On the bright side my kid had two wins in middle school ball. He pitched 4 innings and only gave up two hits and no runs. It was also against two of the best teams in our region. So maybe HIS middle school will make the county playoffs....

From the day you got here and every time I hear you speak and your excitement about coaching our Gators, working your tale off and being a straight shooter, you are now one of my all time favorite coaches. Thanks coach.

Last year we lost to USF, North Florida (I think) and Samford and those losses were later in the season. I think Wes is right. This is a young team that at times has shown the ability to be good in all phases - here's hoping they are going to get better as the season goes along.

definitely a work in progress.
funny thing for me as a fan in the stands - i wasn't so perplexed or anxious or disappointed last night being down 8-2 to FGCU than in previous years. i think, emotionally and intellectually i've factored in this would be a bumpy year. i sense, when we do well, hit well, field well, pitch well, i'll be that much more happy.
you know, last year the bar WAS the nat'l title. this year, the bar is 'just' winning a couple of games each week....at least in my mind, apparently.

While FGCU might be the same in both sports, UF basketball is clearly light years better than UF baseball this year. It happens though more often than I would like for a team that should be a powerhouse every year.

my preconception was - we'd win the friday night game w/ crawford on the mound. so far that's not materializing.

Keep in mind that Sully clearly is not going to let Crawford go deep into pitch counts in these early non conference games...so while FGCU throws their ace for a complete game Crawford only throws 5.

Guess the baseball team need to practice their 3 run homers...

so true. so true. have to think sully is looking at this year as a whole and how to best develop and cultivate the team. gonna take alot of coaching acumen. from techniques and practice to the mental side of things / motivation, etc. should be interesting to watch it all unfold. you want them in a position to contend and make it into the ncaa's, but it may also be a case where you're grooming them to become a good team for next season too.

Agree on all points. I think there may be some tough pills to swallow like last night, but it will pay off in the long run.

We only have two seniors in our every day lineup and both of these guys will be replaced next year with better players.

Nah - hoops is positioned now for the tourney, whatever happens there will determine if it was a good season or not.

Are you actually being serious? 4 losses on the year with all 4 coming on the road and 3 coming against top 20 talent (Mizzou isn't ranked that high today but no one disputes the talent) and comparing that to a .500 baseball team all at home with Duke, UCF, GSU, and FGCU as the competition? How can one even come close to comparing the two? UF is a top 10 basketball team and they are not even close to a top 30 baseball team as of today. They may not be top 50 today.

Can't expect perfection with all the MLB talent we lost, then lost several committed players in our recruiting class to the MLB too.
I said right after the draft that we were going to seriously struggle this season with all this youth and little to no leadership and that seems to be the case.
Sully will get the team back up to where it needs to be, but this year will be a long, tough learning and developing year for us. We just gotta tough it out.
And no, I don't think we make the regionals this season. Just not enough experience
