I know I bought it less than a year ago to replace my old one (that lasted 6 years) but I can't find my receipt. Is there any other way to prove purchase to Sony?

If you purchased with a credit card and still have the box you might be able to? But I also had to get something fixed on my PS3 about 2 years ago and was able to just register the unit online and get it fixed with just a warranty payment without proving purchase.

I had to fix my bluray drive last month. It wasn't that hard and you can find parts cheap. But my ps3 was one of the first ones out. Easy fix though if you are out of warranty.

Basically, my PS3 is not reading disks. It makes a clicking noise and tries to spit out the disk but it doesnt spit it out.
If I keep putting the disk back in, it will eventually read it and play the disk.

If you're a little handy, do a search on the ps3 and your serial number and the problem. You may be able to find the solution on some message boards and even on YouTube. But if its under warranty, I would try that route as opening the system voids it. Because mine is 5 years old, I had nothing to lose other than 50 bucks for the part.

I called a local Play N Trade and they said they could probably fix it for 35 bucks. I think I'm just going to go that route since Sony will take two months to fix it.

Mine is finally going as well. Want to hold out to the ps4 next year, but that's just too long to wait. Especially since it will most likely get pushed back a quarter or two. Anybody want to sell there's to me? (Nothing over 120 Gig.) prefer 80, to be honest. I don't need the 250 or 500 Gigs.

Bro, crack it open and try to fix it. YouTube has plenty of tutorials. No reason not to try.

I'd buy me a refurb at Gamestop for 209.00 and be done with it!

'Been debating on that. But I did some research and I found that GameStop refurbishes them themselves. Sounds fishy to me. Who's to say they don't just blow a can of compressed air through it, and slap a price tag on it? If they sent it to Sony, that would make me feel better. I don't want someone's old PS3 that is one week away from a YLOD. And plus, for $30 more, I can get a brand new one. What's really annoying is that all the ps3's are stupid bundle packages. I don't want a bundle, just the system.
Anyway, probably going to just bite the bullet and get a new one. Then, when the ps4 comes out, I'll give the ps3 to the 14 year old. She has a wii, I know she would like the upgrade.

Take that back, maybe I'll call GameStop and ask what their warranty is on used ps3's, if they even offer one.

A buddy of mine works at GameStop. 30 days on used ps3s. $30 for an extra 1 year warranty. Doesn't sound like the greatest warranty out there.

I called up GameStop, and they told me it was a two year warranty for a measily $20 extra. told him that couldn't be right. So with a price tag of 209, that would make it $230. $20 more and I get a brand new one though. Lol decisions, decisions..... May as well buy a new, really. Why do these things have to be so expensive, dang.
If it is, in fact, $30 for a year... Then, yet again, I may as well buy a new one. Game stop is such a rip off, I swear. You trade games in and they give you basically nothing in return. Then they turn around and sell it for double what they gave you, if not triple, in some cases. Yeah, I know it's a business. Still annoying though.

Buy and trade through Best Buy...They kill Gamestop on the buy and trade market.

I'm so annoyed by the pricing of PlayStation 3s and the difference between repairs....I basically have these two PS3s that are broke and nothing to do with them because they aren't worth getting repaired and sold.
I think Im just going to go buy the God of War bundle for 350 and be done with it.

The only reason I repaired mine is because my PS3 is backwards compatible to some PS2 games. But You can't go wrong with the GOW bundle! You'll have extra controllers too!
